AirAsia dumps fuel surcharge
Southeast Asia's largest low-cost airline, AirAsia, is ending fuel surcharges on airline tickets passengers have to pay in response to the drop in global oil prices.
AirAsia has announced that this now also applies to AirAsia X's medium-haul flights. The fuel surcharge had already been abolished for Thai AirAsia's short flights.
AirAisa Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes expects that this measure will encourage even more tourists to fly and boost tourism in the region.
AirAsia is the market leader in the low-cost airline segment in Southeast Asia, but its results are under pressure due to increasing competition.
