In a significant expansion of its network, budget airline AirAsia will launch a new branch in Cambodia in May.
Known as a leading budget airline in Asia with operations in several countries, this expansion marks the continuation of AirAsia's ambition to grow its presence in the region. The launch of AirAsia Cambodia promises the launch of three domestic connections, with plans for rapid expansion in the near future.
AirAsia Cambodia's inaugural flight, with the airline code KT, is scheduled for May 2. With a fleet of two Airbus A320 aircraft, the airline will offer services to key destinations within Cambodia, including Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville. This expansion creates direct connections to the already established routes to these cities by AirAsia's Malaysian and Thai branches, and strengthens connectivity with key hubs in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.
Since its inception in Malaysia, AirAsia has built an impressive network with subsidiaries in Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines, in addition to the AirAsia X long-haul divisions in Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. Despite selling its Indian arm to Tata Sons in 2022 and shutting down its Japanese arm during the pandemic, AirAsia remains ambitious in its expansion plans, now with the addition of Cambodia to its growing family.
