Home » Expats and retirees » emigrate » Best cities worldwide for retirees: Hua Hin in seventh place
Hua Hin and Chiang Mai rank seventh and eighth on Live and Invest Overseas' list of the 21 best cities in the world for retirees.
Live and Invest Overseas is an online resource for retirees considering emigration. They give an annual overview of the best global destinations for retirees.
Number one on the list is the Algarve in Portugal for the second consecutive year. This coastal region is popular due to its low cost of living and real estate. The Algarve has a large expat community, a good climate and affordable, high-quality healthcare.
Second on the list is Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, a well-known beach town. This destination is popular thanks to the good hospitals in the area and an airport with many direct flights. The list is completed with Cayo in Belize, Languedoc in France, Abruzzo in Italy, Medellin in Colombia, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai.
Hua Hin is described as a coastal town with many resorts on the beach and very popular with foreigners who enjoy golf, tennis and good food. The resort town has good health care, low crime and is only a two-hour drive from Bangkok.
Astonishing ; Medellin in Colombia …… is that for the ' sniffers ' among us ; can't imagine it. but hey, maybe things have improved a lot there in recent years.
Medellin in Columbia, indeed, I was surprised about that too.
For the rest, these are all places where I, outside of Hua Hin, Chiang Mai and the Algarve,
never heard of it???
But of course there are a lot of retirees worldwide !!
Indeed, amazing. Belize is also in the list - a virtually lawless and very unsafe country, with a lot of serious crime and violent crime everywhere. Perhaps it is bearable in 'enclaves' for foreigners, high walled and with armed guards at the gate - albeit that you are in fact locked up in your 'own' prison………..
I find it completely incomprehensible that such places are higher on the list than Hua Hin.
just as safe as Vietnam and most countries in Asia according to the travel advice of the Dutch government
http://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/reisadviezen
Before finding a place on the ranking incomprehensible, it is necessary to first find out what the criteria are on which the research has been conducted.
you should always look at those lists with a critical eye
the majority who choose in this matter are mostly Americans
And then you do indeed get a number of Central and South American countries
that show up strongly
So congratulations to Thailand, which mainly depends on the European voters
and I feel very good in Chiang mai -thailand

I don't understand this list : both Cayo in Belize and Abruzzo in Italy are regions, not places.
Medellin is not very safe as far as I know and Belize is a link country with few facilities, poor food and ditto health care, although I have found very relaxed places.
Give me (Southern) Thailand
