From 1 January 2019, very small pensions will expire. These are pensions of € 2 or less gross per year. This is allowed under new rules because the administration costs for these very small pensions are very high.

People who want to keep a very small pension must contact their pension provider (for example a pension fund or insurer) before 1 January 2019 to ask about the options, such as depositing into the bank account.

With mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl people can check whether they have accrued a very small pension somewhere.

The rules for small pensions are also changing
Small pensions, pensions of more than € 2 and less than € 474,11 gross per year, can be combined by the pension providers with your current pension.

Why are there new rules for small and very small pensions?

People change jobs more often and stay with an employer for a shorter period of time. As a result, employees accrue (several) small pensions with different employers, and therefore with different pension providers. Small pensions are often commuted and then no longer form part of the later pension. By merging these small pensions with the pension that is currently being accrued from 1 January 2019, people keep their pension and it is divided over fewer pots.
