You all know about the new rules for issuing annual visas. In short, the “income statement”. I have sent all the necessary documents such as bank statements, tax return, accountant's statement, copy sister, copy of that, a whole pack of paper with 2000 baht in it via EMS to the Dutch embassy in Bangkok. A week later the mail brought me the necessary document.

A sigh of relief because I have it all. Yesterday a week before the expiry of my annual visa with all paperwork to immigration in Jomtien, my wife always goes along as usual. After 10 minutes it was our turn. The junior official checked all the documents, one more signature here and one there. Then the document from the Dutch embassy came up for discussion. He looked at it and took the piece to his boss. It turned out that the embassy employee had forgotten to put the "STAMP" of the kingdom of the Netherlands on the document.

The boss was extremely friendly and helpful. He said to my wife, I have known your husband for 10 years, he never has any problems, but unfortunately I cannot approve this document. He opened a folder full of documents from different countries and pointed to the signatures and stamps. He said to my wife, go to the Austrian consul then everything will be fine and then come back to me.

We to Thai Garden. After some explanation and the presentation of the embassy document and my accountant's statement, we were outside again within 5 minutes after payment of the dues with the required document. We return to Jomtien. The officer saw me coming, reached out his hand to receive the document, looked at it, nodded approvingly, gave me a number and said, tomorrow after 10 am you can pick up your passport again. So nothing has changed as far as the Austrian consul is concerned, it appears.

Have we Dutch people been fooled by a bunch of fools from The Hague? Many of you have most likely made an expensive futile trip to Bangkok. From this I understand that the Austrian consul has never been sidelined. From this I also understand that we pensioners are at the mercy of a fool or a number of fools in the Netherlands. Read the message again from Dr. Maarten Vasbinder addressed to the Dutch embassy in Bangkok.

I have no problem with the 2000 baht, because they won't refund that money anyway. Although that would be elegant I do have a problem with the extremely stupid mistake of a highly educated person. What, if you extend on the last day, you have an OVERSTAY with all its consequences. I would like to bring the above to your attention.

I would like to hear from readers the experiences with the above.

I understand from this, that if I am residing in Pranburi. also use this Austrian embassy construction? or is this impossible and only applicable if i.am living in jomtien, pattaya or the district.

    • marine says up

as a member of the european union you can in principle go to any embassy of which the country is a part.

    • grain says up

Of course. Everyone in Thailand can go to the Austrian Consul for the income statement and then to the immigration service for an extension of the annual visa with the required annual statements from the previous year and sufficient proof that there is sufficient income from pension.

  2. Gertg says up

You could also have checked the income statement and had the embassy stamp it.
I always make a day trip to Bangkok to prevent these kinds of problems.

    • Jasper says up

What is a day trip for you, is a multi-day trip for someone else. I do agree that it is good to always check whether a civil servant has done a good job. Highly educated or not, we can all be wrong!!

    • l.low size says up

This gentleman had sent it to Bangkok by post and could only check it on his return.

Incidentally, people who have already had to submit an income statement can still do so
always use the Austrian embassy for this at Thai Garden.

Those who have to show an income statement for the first time seem to have to have this done through the Dutch embassy, subject to new changes!

Sent to the embassy on Monday after Roy Krathong and neatly delivered at home by EMS on Thursday, back within 3/4 days. So faster and better does not go.

Never wait until the last week or days….., you never know what article of murphy's law might pop up…. i always go the first day of my 30 days prior to expiration,…same day bank letter, and when i was still using the combination method that affidavit was already requested to my BE the month before. Embassy .
Now with only a bank balance, everything is even simpler, 3 months in advance everything is safe…. and it is as simple as saying bon jour…
Because don't forget the exchange rate can make strange jumps and difficult to repair because the 3 months rule is applied that the necessary balance had to remain present ... .. time machines unfortunately do not exist ....

    • Cornelis says up

In the situation described above, the exchange rate plays no role. Once you have 800.000 baht in your account, the rate can go up or down without any impact on the amount required by immigration.

    • Chris from the village says up

Right – never wait until the last day, you never know.
I also always go 4 weeks in advance,
Just been to Nakhonratchasima 2 weeks ago
and the Officer was busy for around 5 minutes
to view and stamp everything and 10 minutes later I had my passport
with the new visa in my hands again .

I do not understand why you send such a mountain of paper to the embassy, you only have to prove your income once, so this can be done with a bank statement showing your monthly income, or a copy of the annual statement of the pension fund and SVB.

Furthermore, it is not smart to wait until 2 weeks before the expiration date of your visa. You can extend your visa 60 days before it expires and you keep the same extension date.

VWB the NL embassy, sloppy but doubt whether these people (desk employees) are highly educated.
Would at least spend a note on it and ask for the fee, € 30.00 about THB 1250.00 back,
The change was probably in your wad of papers.

      Hello
      My question is according to.

Does the income statement that is signed and stamped at the embassy also have to be legalized at Foreign Affairs in Bangkok???

Please give a clear answer to this.

      Greetings Ari

      • henry says up

Depends on the local immigration office in Bangkok and Nonthaburi this is the case.

      • Walter says up

        NO
This is not the case in Bangkok!

Have you ever heard that where work is done, mistakes are made?? The embassy staff are also people and people make mistakes, a good lesson not to wait until the last minute next year

  7. Gerard Van Heyste says up

For this proof Call. embassy we have to pay 600 baht! why such a big difference 2000 bath ??
The best is 800.000 bath in the bank in your name, ask for proof of that and you're done.

I always just go to the Austrian Consulate in Pattaya with my income data, passport and nothing more. Out and about in 5 minutes. With that to the immigration and passport photo plus visa application form, and you're done. Done last August.
I think you can go to any consulate or embassy of any country that falls within the Schengen area.

    • Khan Yan says up

      that's a bonus…because the Dutch and Belgian embassies just don't do this…

  9. Leo Th. says up

Where work is done, mistakes occur, whether it concerns a government agency or a private company, it doesn't matter. Annoying for you that someone has forgotten the stamp, but to use the word fool/fools several times in connection with this seems somewhat exaggerated to me.

This year I was at the German Embassy in Bangkok. Had it done there and was done in no time and paid a few hundred Baht less than at the Dutch Embassy. Although it was not my main reason (I would go to the Netherlands with my wife via Germany and let her enter Germany), it will be my main reason next time.
I will not send by Post, unless I am disabled or too old to travel another 280 km.
There is also a cheap hotel close to the Embassy. Occasionally I like to go to the capital for a bit of shopping… a good combination!

And as Leo Th. says, mistakes are always made. You should also check everything yourself to see if everything is in order. It is always easy to blame others but ignore one's own flaws. That is taking on the victim role that many like to do. If you had checked as everyone wrote and also on time, you could have saved yourself this. But in the end it all worked out, didn't it? Then what are we whining about?

    Hello Cock,
I did this for the first time this year and I was pleased with the handling. Within a week I had the form back with stamp.
If that happens to you in Thailand, which will not be an exception, it might be better not to respond immediately in Dutch and blow your mind, but just call and ask if they want to send you another form what no doubt will happen.

Corruption is all over the world and especially here in Thailand. The examples abound. Nevertheless, some improvement is noticeable. Especially at the office of the aliens police in Jomtien. Information and assistance has improved in recent years. Personally, I have never personally experienced any problems with applying for a visa or for anything else. It is a paper business, but if you meet the conditions, it will always be provided. For a number of complainants, their own investigation could possibly be improved, rather than leaving it to those who make the decisions. In the end, we have to do it the way it is prescribed whether we like it or not.
