AD: Passport stress for Dutch people abroad – wave of innovations and too little capacity is causing unrest
The AD contains an article about Dutch people living abroad who are experiencing major problems renewing their passports due to an expected peak in applications in 2024. Complaints are piling up about technical problems and a lack of available appointments.
The situation is complicated by the long validity of passports, which went from five to ten years in 2014, requiring a major wave of renewals this year. This leads to frustration among Dutch people who are dependent on a valid passport for their residence permit and other official documents in their country of residence.

Right, yes
I just completed the necessary documents yesterday and will go to the embassy next week to hand them in.
I actually don't have to renew my passport for another two years, but the old one is so crumpled that the embassy employee urgently advised me to do it now to avoid problems with immigration.
On the Foreign Affairs website they still assume four weeks. No word about bigger crowds. Well, I have until June before I have to renew my residence permit.
Quite a big contrast with Thailand.
Last Friday we were in Central Pattaya to apply for a new passport for my wife.
She had made an appointment for 11 o'clock. 20 minutes later we were back outside.
Believe it or not. The next day the postman was at the door with an EMS shipment with her new passport.
If it is good, it can also be said! 😉
