TAT: New Year's events in six Thai provinces
New Year is just around the corner and many are busy planning their end-of-year celebrations. For those who want to take a break from the well-known locations, choose from the program of “Amazing Thailand Countdown 2020” events held at six emerging destinations far from Bangkok.
Organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the events will take place in six provincial cities: Sukhothai, Kalasin, Lop Buri, Ratchaburi, Sa Kaeo and Phatthalung. Many activities are organized on New Year's Eve, the highlight will be a spectacular fireworks display during the turn of the year.
The program:
- Wat Mahathat in the Sukhothai Historical Park (December 29-31, from 17.00 p.m.). Countless lanterns will illuminate the night sky. Contemporary music and dance performances are staged, as well as art and craft demonstrations, sales of local produce and local delicacies, raffles and DIY workshops. Visitors are invited to visit Wat Traphang Thong on New Year's Day.
- Kaeng Don Klang Park in Muang District of Kalasin (December 30-31 from 16.00 p.m.). There you can admire dinosaurs as well as a tunnel with colorful lanterns and giant flags. Local delicacies are served. Both nights there are performances by local and famous artists. The lineup consists of Paowalee Pornphimol, Jazz Sputnik Papillon Kuk Kuk, Leew Ajareeya and Kaimook Rungrak.
- Pibulwitthayalai School in Muang District of Lop Buri (December 30-January 1 from 17.00 p.m.). Visitors are encouraged to dress up in Thai costumes and learn about the provinces through a photo exhibit. There are excellent dishes to try and demonstrations of local crafts. The stage features Tor Saksit, Phujhan Microphone Checker, Friday, Blue Shade, Zani & ZN Band and more.
- Rattha Pracha Pattana Dam in Muang district of Ratchaburi (December 24-31, from 16.00 p.m.). Enjoy beautiful decorations, a light tunnel and a display of giant illuminated Christmas gifts. Of course there is food and drink in abundance. The House Band and other well-known acts will take turns, including Sunny Paradise, The Richman Toy, Instinct, No One Else, Lumyai Hai Thongkam and Clash.
- In the Indochina Trade Center in Aranyaprathet District of Sa Kaeo (December 30-January 1 from 16.00 p.m.). You can witness Thai-Cambodian cultural performances and concerts by Thai and Cambodian artists, including R and Singto The Star, Typhoon KPN, Mint AF, Lala-Lulu R Siam, Fruity and Sok Pisey. And of course delicious dishes and excellent products.
- Coliseum Intersection in Muang district of Phatthalung (December 30-January 1 from 16.00 p.m.). There is a parade of arts and cultural performances from the South, including manorah traditional Thai dance and shadow puppets. A giant Christmas tree is made from local materials, while the decorations feature local fishing tools. There are also fun games and activities, as well as the sale of local delicacies and community products. Of course there are performances by local artists.
