Phetchaburi Province will host Phetchaburi Harmony World Shadow Puppet Festival 9 from September 11 to 2022. The event is organized by Harmony Puppet Thailand under the supervision of Semathai Puppet Foundation in collaboration with Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau and Phetchaburi Governor Nattawut Petchpromsorn.

International shows will include Fusion Wayang Kulit from Malaysia, The Sbek Thom and Sbek Touch from Cambodia, Shadow Puppets from Taiwan and Tholpavakoothu & Puppet Center from India.

The festival also includes Nang Yai performances from all over Thailand, including Nang Yai Wat Khanon, Nang Yai Wat Ban Don, Nang Yai Wat Sawang Arom, Nang Yai of King Rama IX and Nang Tailung, from the South, the Middle and Nang Bug Di from the Northeast region.

Nang yai is a form of shadow play with puppets made of painted buffalo skin, while the story is told through songs, chants and music. Nang means 'leather' and generally refers to a dance-drama shadow puppet show. Wikipedia (English)

Phetchaburi Harmony World Shadow Puppet Festival 2022 will be held at King Mongkut Memorial Park, Phra Nakhon Khiri in Phetchaburi; the 'Life In Shadows' exhibition features collections of puppet art photographs from Southeast Asia.
