Sukhumvit Soi 38 is well known among tourists as the place to be in Bangkok eten on the street.

Most street vendors speak English and many street restaurants also have an English menu. Of course there are also downsides, so often the same thing is sold, such as three stalls with khao man gai (chicken with rice). Some of the food stalls have tailored the food to the taste of tourists.

You can go there from 17 p.m. to 00 a.m., but most stalls are only open from 02:00 p.m. On Mondays the streets in Bangkok are cleaned and you will find far fewer food stalls.

The prices here are also a bit more touristy, but still cheap. You pay about 40 – 60 THB per dish.

The fastest way to travel to Sukhumvit Soi 38 is the BTS Skytrain. Get off at Thong Lo station and take exit 4. Walk down the stairs and make an instant u-turn, impossible to miss.

Enjoy!

Just back from Thailand. Been in Bangkok for five days and eaten in Soi 38 for five days. Awesome street, delicious noodles with duck and wonton. Some more variation would be welcome, but for a few days it is fine.

With my family (4 people) we eat there a few times a month .... cozy, good and cheap.
with a drink a total of 200 Bath, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more.
An absolute must for the tourist…. an outing for the Thai.

Soi 38 is now at least half closed in terms of food stalls.

Soi 38 will be further closed due to the construction plans there. See an earlier post on TB.

I have also eaten there, but I find the service sloppy, the food expensive, weak and not tasty.

A classy restaurant, popular with many Thais (and which is not a street restaurant) can be found when you enter Thonglor. Then take soi 17 (or 19?) diagonally opposite the police station. You can take the 5 bath mini bus from the BTS to the police station and then take the soi diagonally across the street, towards BTS. Then after 2 to 300 meters on the left. It is the only and small restaurant in a quiet street and can only be seen if you are standing right in front of it. A mussel dish, for example with crispy fried basil leaves, yum.

If you want a good meal, go one BTS station further and (by bus) to the end of ekkamai on the corner of soi 23 half under the bridge. Dirt cheap and always full of thai eating out there. (this is a street restaurant with I estimate 15 tables)
