The major retail companies are changing their plans as Bangkok is under threat. Normally the high season would start soon.

An overview:

  • Robinson Department Store is moving its events, which were planned for 3 branches, to outlets in safe areas. The Ayutthaya and Future Park branches are closed, the branch in Rattanathibet is in danger of closing. Last week the branch in Phitsanulok opened; sales were 70 to 80 percent higher than expected. The sales campaigns for the holiday season are being reviewed. The focus will be on items that people need after the floods, such as small electrical appliances and household items.
  • Central Department Store has postponed its 64th anniversary marketing campaign, originally scheduled for November 9-13. However, the midnight sales in Chiang Mai and Hat Yai continue; in Bangkok they expire.
  • The Mall Group is also considering adjusting its marketing events.
  • Central Pattana Plc closed CentralPlaza Pinklao on Wednesday. The opening hours of the other shops in the outskirts of Bangkok have been reduced by 1 to 2 hours.
  • Tesco Lotus has closed 30 to 40 of its stores and 7-Eleven 270 of its 6200 stores.
  • Big C Supercenter Plc expects to distribute the first shipload of drinking water (14.400 bottles) from Malaysia next week. Waiting for approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
