I would like to come back to my question of October 9, how it would work if you go to Thailand with an old and a new passport, with a valid residence permit in the old passport. I'd like to let you know how that went. With this one then.

In the end I did it as follows: I went to Thailand on November 21 on my new passport and a visa exemption. My thought was, since I still had a current Thai covid insurance until December 26, I could save myself almost 600 euros for a new insurance for my stay of 7 months in total. Luckily I guessed right. Got Thailand Pass, after 1 week, but I was on time, so no problem. 1 night in a hotel the results of the PCR test were there the next morning at half past eight, and at half past twelve I was on the plane to Khon Kaen. Incidentally, the taxi that took me to the airport lost all kinds of parts along the way, so it couldn't continue, but the driver arranged another taxi for me within 8 minutes. Perfect!

Once I arrived in Khon Kaen, I immediately went to immigration the next day, for my address report, and in the hope of having my residence permit transferred to my new passport. No problem. With now 2 pages full of stamps in my new passport, I am legal until May 4, in accordance with my residence permit. I had the experience before that the immigration people in Khon Kaen are quite pleasant and flexible, if you have everything in order. This also went without a long wait and without costs.

All in all, it went well. The only downside was that rebooking my return flight from December 21 to June 23, 2022 was 374 euros more expensive in terms of flight price, no rebooking costs. According to Emirates, uncontrollable for me. So the benefit of the unsecured insurance has been reduced by more than half. Well, you have to…

What matters to me in this story is that everything concerning Thailand, and especially Thai immigration, went smoothly and pleasantly.

Nice to hear that it went well.

It is often all a matter of goodwill on the part of immigration and then a lot is possible. The attitude of the applicant at immigration will of course also determine the previous. 😉

Thanks in advance for your feedback

I rebooked my ticket from KLM for only € 73,00 was very transparent. You must have booked directly with KLM.
