Reporter: John

Yesterday, 19/01/21 I applied for an extension of retirement at immigration in Jomtien on the basis of a non-immigrant “o” visa, with proof of 800.000 Baht in the bank.

In addition to the usual paperwork, which everyone who lives here knows, I was NOT asked about insurance and NOT about a covid-19 test.

What they DID ask for, is to present me back to immigration within three months with a document that they handed me to prove that there are still 800.000 Baht in my account after three months.

The form states:

90 Days Bank Checking, counter No.8

To prove that you have THB 800.000 fund in your account.

requirement;

  1. Appointment form (the form they gave me)
  2. A copy of passport – first page of your name and photo – last visa issued by Thai immigration.
  3. Bankbook – first page of your name – last page,(needed to be updated before making a copy)

Today 20/01/21 I went to get my passport back, with normal stamp.

Within three months on 17/04/21, (date is on the document) I must have my 800.000 Baht proof checked. This is new to me, that's why I'm letting you know.

According to the date on the document, this additional check would have taken effect on 18/01/21.

The conditions for using the bank amount of at least 800 Baht are that this amount remains outstanding for at least 000 months after allocation.

It is now up to the immigration offices themselves to determine how they check this.

– Some do that after three months. They will then give you a day to come back. Like in this case at immigration Jomtien.

– Other in combination with a 90-day notice. They usually also immediately provide a new 90-day notification with the new extension so that it also runs smoothly and you can do that immediately.

– others only do it after a year, at the next annual renewal. Which I personally also think is the most practical for everyone.

I also made that extension in Jomtien on 11/09/20 via 800.000 on the account and then had to come back for the first time after 3 months to show that the money was still on the account, so already in December 2020. So it has been in effect there longer than from 18/01/21.

This has been officially introduced since March 1, 2019 and can be found in Immigration Order No. 35/261 of January 2019

“At least 2 months prior to filing date, and at least 3 months after being granted permission, the alien must have fund deposited in a bank in Thailand of no less than THB 800,000. The alien can withdraw the fund 3 months after being granted permission and the remaining balance must be no less than THB 400,000

For the sake of convenience, I always leave at least 800.000 in my account.
