I would like to thank you for the advice you gave me before I went to Surin for a few months.
Back in the Netherlands I can give you an update on a border run from Surin to Cambodia. The shortest route is now via Chong Chom, which border crossing opened again in the middle of last year. The distance from Surin is approximately 65 km. The costs: if you only want to stay in Cambodia for a few hours, the costs for a visa are 2800 Thai baht. If you stay in Cambodia for at least 24 hours (so you spend money in Cambodia for at least one overnight stay), the costs for a visa are 2000 Thai baht.
Answer to your question: Surin does have an airport, but it is only a military airport.
Nice to hear that you could resume your work for Thailandblog.

I made my border run to Chong Chom on February 1 this year. Large unpaved guarded parking lot between the trees 400 m before the border, costs 50 baht. The price for the visa is 1500 baht, and extra 500 baht because I went straight back to Thailand.
Having a Cambodian assist me, then it usually goes faster, they know the system, gave him 100 baht.
Total so 2150 baht, was then quite quiet.
