Diary of Pim Hoonhout (part 2)
After more than half a year to be able to import that Dutch delicacy into Thailand, it was finally time on April 29 that they were allowed to step out of their bucket in Hua Hin. For the enthusiast, that was just what their happiness in Thailand was still missing.
Now that we are a week further, Chang Mai, Cha-Am and Pattaya have also been introduced to this unsurpassed delicacy. In the meantime we have learned a lot and the Thai from us.
Mae and Papa had arrived from their village in Ubon Ratchatani several weeks before the herring to see something of their country for the first time in their lives that a tourist has already seen in one day. Mae has already learned quite a bit of English in that time and now even says when she sees me after getting up Good morning, Dad is not that smart and doesn't get any further than No. There's nothing these people can do about that.
Mae was screaming that hot water was coming out of the tap while Papa is surprised that no water was going into the glass, he didn't know he was holding it upside down. In their eyes, it's magic that our sink water just disappears.
If you experience things like this all day long, you are relieved that they are happy and satisfied that they want to return to their familiar surroundings. To make it completely crazy for these lovely people, they can take a plane back to experience the excitement of a slowly flowing Mekong again. I am not surprised when they are overtaken after this adventure like heroes on a cart pulled by a buffalo.
In the meantime they have seen how we process the herring, which means that the telephone costs are quite high to call this great event to everyone they could reach. Someone came up with the clear idea of eating the herring heads and entrails shovel to process. Much to their delight, they had never had such delectable ones shovel tasted.
They are getting very nervous now. Their entire environment is talking about it after so many phone calls against it again. The old people make me even more nervous after I tell them that they can take 7 kilos of luggage. They try to get 7 kilos in their hand luggage, but that handbag won't close. They have not yet reached their weight, so they also have to add herring heads to introduce the herring in the Isaan in their own way.
Tomorrow morning at 8 o'clock the Isaan will also enjoy Dutch herring. Well in their way but healthier than them shovel made so far.
The first part of Pim Hoonhout's Diary appeared on April 26, 2013.

Dear Mr. Pim, oh where in Chiang Mai can you eat this fish. Do they also come frozen at the Rim supermarket? I know Ouwerhand supplies cleaned herring in vacuum in freezer to the Macro in the Netherlands, could this also be done to Thailand.
Yesterday I was surprised by three herrings from Pim. I usually only eat one at a time. But these were so tasty and perfectly cleaned that I pretty much ate all three in a row.
I can recommend them, they were delicious!
Psst!! , Bert .
Do not tell anyone.
You probably missed that herring evening in Chiang Mai on Tuesday, so I'll let you know who will have them again one day.
Look up http://www.dutchsnacksthailand.com or call 086-118-7812 if there are still .
Our herring is available vacuum packed but freshly cut by hand here in Thailand.
Also frozen on request.
The difference is that the supermarket in NL. she usually has machine cut lying around.
Fat herring cannot be used for this, which means that it cannot give optimum quality.
I am not familiar with the supermarket you mentioned.
The intention is that a herring can be bought here in Thailand that is of excellent quality and far above the average in the Netherlands. comes out .
In the meantime already 100 den Customers can confirm this .
I hope this answer will help many people in Thailand .
Hello Pim,
My mouth is watering, when are they also for sale in Pattaya.
Because that would be very nice. impatiently waiting for that.
good luck and best regards.
Shark John .
If the right business registers, they could also be for sale in Pattaya almost every day in 2 days.
In my opinion there is enough demand to have this for sale, especially when I see the reactions from Pattaya that also come to me privately.
Finally found the salty guys in Pattaya at Big C, unfortunately it's not quite what I had hoped for, in the oil (I sometimes am), very dry and way too salty, and not greasy like a herring now just supposed to be, and I don't mean snotty, now my question to you Pim where can I get a nice salty boy in Pattaya. You are really my last hope for now who can tell me, please let me know. my email adress [email protected]
Kind regards, Hans-ajax.
Dear Pim,
Another wonderful story!! Not so much the herring interests me, but Mae and Papa's reaction to our "luxury" life, which we have all come to find very normal.
I have often experienced these reactions during my “trips” through Thailand. When you experience that you realize how “easy” we have it! Thank you for the beautiful stories!
Goodluck!
PS. Maybe keep the Volendam costume for a while? :-))
Love Mia

A breakfast with herring that was delicious. Yesterday Pim called me: I'll take those old people to the airport and I'll have something for you on the way back.
I immediately got the water in my mouth. What a delicious delicacy this is and also 7 o'clock in the morning. Now kudos to Pim, he fought for it long enough and he succeeded. Great and success.

Hi Pim, have enough freezer space to resell herring here in Pattaya.
Now I enjoy the ones brought by friends, but there is a demand for them, so send an email and enjoy this treat from the sea here too.
Actually the accompanying drink dr bij (corn wine), but that is always possible
Are there plans to sell the Dutch new ones in Nakhon Ratchasima and possibly where and when. Please keep me informed. I hope my response is long enough now, otherwise I will have to start again.
Dear William.
Through your question I will try to make it clear to everyone that I would like and can reach every fancier .
So for that you need addresses that can meet a few requirements and are also reliable, especially with regard to quality.
I want to give those people the opportunity to create a point of sale in a certain area without 2 being close to each other.
This is growing in our very short existence .
If anyone is interested in selling it in their shop or restaurant as a crowd puller, they can contact me.
There is no one in your area who has reported yet.
So here's my email address again!
hua-hoon1 @ hotmail.com
Hey, Pete.
This is a very nice gesture for many .
However, there is a but in Thai legislation that we can better discuss among ourselves.
Like so many, you're having a great time here, just like me.
We would not want your good gesture to put you in unnecessary trouble .
Mail me to try to make the people in Pattaya even happier, we can see what we can do.
Greetings from Hooray Haring.
Hi Pim … I am married to a Belgian man and we live in Pattaya, our mouths also water when we think of buddies and hope that we can enjoy this delicacy here.
Thanks in advance and good luck!!
Dear people in Pattaya.
Here is the proof of what I have already experienced in my time in NL,
Poo a lady from Thailand is also mouth watering as with a large part of the Thai population.
Good news !
Pieter Veenstra and his wife Phai will start selling on Tuesday because we have probably solved the transport problem.
If necessary , deliveries can even be made twice a day .
Phoe , phoe , the headache you gave me from Pattaya is already going down .
Bon appetit everyone.
Pim .
Haring! The only reason I still traveled to the Netherlands. But where oh where are the addresses where I can eat this ambrosia?
Much to my anger, I was unable to provide any answers yesterday thanks to the provider.
I used the lost time to take another provider because it was getting out of hand now.
Here's my answer to the question where?
Hua hin is known at Say Cheese -Chang Mai at Dutch snacks -Cha-am at OKAYsupermarket and this week probably also in Pattaya at Piet who I just had on the phone.
If there are other sales addresses I will let you know via the blog .
There is a conversation with someone who supplies several provinces with delicacies from Holland to also add Haring.
Now it's time to bite one for me again.
Pim, The vast majority of us live in PATTAYA. As a businessman. still concentrates on the best market for sale. Come here yourself to arrange it properly. So…where exactly in Pattaya? and when?
Patience is a virtue Sharon .
I do select my people who also know how to handle food .
You would also pass that stall in the sun on the corner if there was such a nice fish simmering in its own fat in the sun.
Mamma San is also about the big money and not whether that tourist is sick the next day.
You want to detour for the one who does it well.
I'm largely done with that, so from Tuesday there will be 99% a permanent address in Pattaya.
Then you will know for sure .
With luck for you, maybe Monday evening.
As a businessman you first have to explore the market before you invest, someone will come and tell me to start on Phuket.
Then I think to myself that I better go into the vodka .
In my eyes the best point is at BKK airport.
Is that something for you to start there?
You already win a lot of money with the transport costs, and most incoming and outgoing travelers feel a bit faint.
Hello everyone, my wife Phai will take care of the distribution / sale in Pattaya and surroundings of these delicious herrings.
Currently available per 3 or 4 vacuum frozen; plans in the future to sell them fresh off the knife, but first frozen
Tel. No Phai 0852825325
Greetings from Pattaya,
Phai + Pete
