With a nod to the OTOP slogan “One tambon, one product”, the Thai rock band number 1, Carabao, is completing a nationwide tour this year under the motto “One province, one concert”.

The band with the red buffalo skull as a symbol has been active in the Thai music world for 30 years this year and to celebrate that they have been touring criss-cross since March Thailand for at least one concert per province. The many fans from Mae Sai to Hat Yai have the chance to experience a concert of this famous band in their province.

The set-up is quite ambitious with about 100 concerts in 78 provinces, while a tour of Europe is also planned in September. It is a marathon project for the band members who are no longer so young.

In the coming weeks, a concert is planned in Pichit on July 22, followed by July 27 in Lamphun, August 2 in Chiang Mai, August 7 Dukhotai, August 11 Nakhon Sawan, August 16 Lopburi. Chonburi's turn is not until November 29, while strangely enough Pattaya is not included in the program.

In connection with this anniversary, the budget airline Thai Air Asia has painted one of its aircraft in the bright red colors of Carabao. This aircraft serves 10 domestic routes and is of course a great advertisement for the concerts. The design of this aircraft advertisement is unique and was created with input from Ed and Lek Carabao. “Air Asia and Carabao have in common that they have stolen the hearts of the Thai people. We are proud to participate in this historic anniversary of the legendary Carabao band, which was founded 30 years ago,” said Tassapon Bijleveld, (a Thai with Dutch blood in the veins?) the chief executive of Thai Air Asia.

Attention is also paid to Carabao on board this aircraft. There are numerous accessories and gadgets from the band for sale and a special Carabao menu is available. It is chicken with pepper sauce and brown rice, Lek Carabao's favorite recipe and this has become very popular on board.

    @Gringo: Thanks for this post!!!
    Carabao plays music called “Phleng Phuea Chiwit”, or “songs for life”. The members of this orchestra are true heroes in Thailand because they often sing very critical lyrics about corruption in their country. Unfortunately, probably due to the language barrier(?) Thai musicians still have little international fame. They excel through their singing and virtuosity on various instruments. The solo guitarist of Carabao and their lead singer Et are definitely world class. In short, go see this! A vibrant event where everyone (yes, even farangs!) is guaranteed to collectively go crazy. Catchy music and boundless energy with laughter and tears and above all a lot of fun!

    A taste first? Youtube has many clips of this group.

    Thai rock band nr 1? Really not Carabao, but Loso !!!

      @Thailandgoer

      You are absolutely right. Carabao doesn't play rock but Phleng Phuea Chiwit. Aside from that, Loso is also the end. Insane guitarist and immortalized by his song: Mae (mother).

    A little credit may also be due to the following persons.

    Pompuang Duangjan พุ่มพวงดวงจันทร์ the entire country was turned upside down when she died in 1992, more people attended the funeral than Princess Diane's, even the king was present.

    Not forgetting the amazing Elvis tribute singer, Elvisoot (VISOOT TUNGARAT)
    unfortunately also deceased, had a graceland fence for his home in bankok.
    is still honored by insiders, with video shows etc. I took a series of photos of him during a performance in 1983.
    He also performed a lot in Scandinavia, and once with Carabao in Switzerland.

    Still alive the great singer Nitaya, is also going to be a legend.

    It is a mystery to me why Carabao is so popular, but it must have something to do with taste, I think LOSO is a lot better, it also looks better.
    The eye also wants something I think.

    @Peter Holland

    Indeed, there is no arguing about taste and we certainly shouldn't do that here. By the way, I completely agree with your choice and could come up with a dozen names myself, including ปาน ธนพร แวกประยูร, better known as Sao Paan. For example, I think of her mega-hit with Carabao: หนุ่มบาว-สาวปาน (num bao-Sao Paan).
    However, then we are frankly a bit off-topic. After all, this post is about Carabao.
    As said before, Carabao is extremely popular, not only because of their music that appeals to a very wide audience, but also because of their courage to denounce various abuses in Thailand in their songs. Risky, but due to their enormous popularity, the Thai government never dared to intervene. To my knowledge, Carabao is the only Thai orchestra that enjoys worldwide fame. They have played all over the world, at sold-out concerts. Just look on Youtube.
    I don't quite understand your comment about "looking better" because it has little to do with the quality of music.
    I'll leave it at this.

      I said the eye also wants something, that should say enough, I think.
      Because those guys are ugly, obviously has nothing to do with the music.
      Anyway, when you see the Rolling Stones and especially Keith Richard, that doesn't really make you happy. Oh dear !!! many fans probably got offended, ha ha !!

      Hello Peter,

      For me still the best song by Carabao that he has never been able to surpass in my opinion. Called “Mon Pleng Carabao.” In which he invites everyone to sing along with him.

    Hallo,

    Does anyone know if they will come to Europe again (in 2013?)
    Can't find anything about this

    Missed them in 2007 in Antwerp, something I still regret and in Thailand I never thought to check if there was no concert 🙂
