For the 14th time, the Bangkok International Festival of Dance & Music will soon take place from September 10 to October 14, 2012.

During this festival, artists and theater groups from numerous countries make an appearance and perform in it Thailand Cultural Center with classical concerts, operas, classical and contemporary ballets, folk dances, jazz, even tango and fado.

Since its first year, 1999, the festival has grown into a major event, which has since acquired a great reputation both at home and abroad. The objective is to promote the development of arts and culture in Thailand and to put the country on the cultural map. Moreover, it gives the Thai youth the opportunity to become acquainted with the invited international orchestras and groups.

The Blaze

At the end of July I already made a posting about the performance of the Dutch dance group, which will perform The Blaze, a dazzling show of street and breakdance. Highly recommended, but the Festival offers more than that. I'm not going to list the whole program, but what stood out for me was the performance of the operas Carmen and Madame Butterfly, the Swan Lake ballet and the special Tango evening. The artists come from all over the world, the Netherlands, Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, India, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the US.

Well, when I see this beautiful program I think with nostalgia of the many wonderful theater performances that I visited in the Netherlands, especially in Carré in Amsterdam. Tango music in small cafes in the Boca district of Buenos Aires, fado music in romantic restaurants in Lisbon, how I enjoyed it!

For the entire program and other details, visit the Festival's website: www.bangkokfestivals.com, where you can also watch a short video of most of the performances.

Make your choice and go for a real theater visit in Bangkok!
