The Success of Gringo's “Cry for Distress”

Almost a month ago there was a “cry for help” on this blog from me to get in touch with people who traveled to Thailand and wanted to bring Dutch cigars for me.

The new cigar couriers

I have known! More than twenty blog readers responded via the editors and new e-mails are still trickling in. Soon after publication, first aid was offered by readers from Leiden and Amsterdam, but the flow of cigars only really started in the following period. I have already received cigars via Almere, Rotterdam, Maarssenbroek, Tiel, Zaltbommel, Schiedam and there are still cigars on the way that people from Aalten, Zeist, Belt Schutsloot, Alkmaar, Onnen, Weesp and Driebergen are taking for me. This will all happen this month and early October, but shipments are also planned for later months. There has even been someone who wants to bring cigars for me in February next year.

Pleasant experience

It is obviously a pleasant experience that so many people come to the rescue, but I also constantly wondered why people do that for someone they do not know personally other than as a regular blog writer on Thailandblog.

Perhaps the answer lies in a recently received email from someone from Nieuwegein - who is coming this way in December - who wrote:

“I discovered Thailandblog around my first visit to Thailand in 2016. And since then this site has become part of my daily routine. With great pleasure I read all the beautiful stories and useful information that is posted here. As a thank you for all the reading pleasure, I would like to return the favor by bringing you cigars.”

A nice token of appreciation that I would like to share with the editors and all other blog writers. That's what we do it for!

I have been bringing cigars for you for years, so it's your turn again in December.

Dick, you know I am very grateful to you for that.

You also deserve a few feathers, because I know that you always
also all kinds of food such as cheese, sausage and I don't know what else,
for other Dutch people in Pattaya.

    Dear Gringo,

    Glad you're not without it.
Have a lot of 'writing fun' with it! Next time I will
    bring you two boxes again.

Enjoy reading your stories and fun tips.
    Yours faithfully,

    Erwin
Ps for a total stranger I won't just do this.

Why would anyone do that you ask.
Why not, small effort, great pleasure, some things you just do for someone, especially if it doesn't take any effort.
It's nice that there are still so many people who care about each other.
Those who do good, meet well, really

    kind regards Thea

In any case, the world won't get any worse if we do each other an unexpected favor every now and then. Unused space in a suitcase is also a shame if you pay for 30 kg 😉
