Slowly but surely, the strings in Pattaya are being pulled by a number of measures taken by the local government. Due to various reasons, the number of bars and go go clubs has been declining for some time. However, for an indefinite period no more permits will be issued to open a new club.

The aim of this scheme is to transform Pattaya's image as “Sin City” into a modern well-equipped seaside family resort. The entire licensing system for bars and the like is examined to see whether they meet the requirements.

Another measure is the closing times. A clear arrangement has now been made for the entertainment business in the Walking Street. In the entire area everything closes at 03.00:6. All operators have received a letter about this decision. Added another tightening that no persons under the age of twenty may be found in the 'adult' clubs. In Soi 18.00, the bars may not open until after XNUMX p.m. and no longer receive guests during the day.

With these measures, the city council, police and army want to polish the image of the city.

Whether most pattaya tourists are waiting for this is the big question here. It is another one of the typical government schemes, without delving into the wishes of most tourists. For the time being it seems to me to be comparable to the desire to make the Sahara sand free.

I suspect it will be quiet in Pattaya.
Pattaya is not suitable for families with children, because of the dirty sea water.
And the nightlife is now also being killed.

Maybe it's time to sell your condo before the big decay and vacancy sets in.
    If that hasn't already begun.

How to screw up a top nightlife area, you can leave that to the Thai government. If you want to go to a neat seaside resort with your whole family if necessary. Then choose Hua Hin or something… But leave Pattaya as it is. By the way, in Phuket, sinful life is even worse, but this will probably bring more money

If life is even more sinful in Phuket, surely Pattaya is no longer needed? 😉 😉

Necessary, not that I understand it, but according to Thai girlfriend Phuket is more for people with a lot of money in their wallets, Pattaya is already a lot cheaper and Jomtien (belongs to Pattaya?) a bit cheaper. Long story short: Pattaya is needed for the “Working Class” – people! ;O)

YOUNG YOUNG. let's first do something about the discharges into the sea and the dirty water here. Then a nice clean beach with operators for chairs and beds 7 days a week. A beautiful and good and clean boulevard. And after that one can plunge into the Gogo clubs and bars and the erotic life. Just put that in a specific section. Because it is an important part of life and also attracts many tourists. aaaand then you can turn Pattaya into a beautiful seaside resort with something for everyone. And an opportunity for the Thais to earn their living. And very important, don't price yourself out of the market with too high prices. And a good and reliable functioning police and then it can become something, but otherwise not.

It won't all go that fast. I've been hearing these kinds of stories for 10 years, but when I get to Pattaya everything is still exactly the same.

I don't quite understand why people are so focused on Pattaya, if you have Jomtien a short distance away?
Then invest more in Jomtien as a 'family holiday place'…

Don't understand what's so 'wonderful' about family vacations.

Very nice, those screaming and throwing children and non-educating parents who don't give a damn about it...

Pattaya has not become more fun . 20 to 30 years ago it was a lot more cozy and even more liveable and yes also for traditional families. It was even a lot safer in all areas then, despite there being many more bars and prostitution.

There are now over 1000 beer bars and about 100 Agogos in Pattaya, plus a few thousand more Beach Runaways and a few thousand more active on Thaifriendly.
If there is an incident a few times a week where a tourist is injured or robbed, it will spread all over the world.
And then I have to assume from you that it is now much more dangerous than 25 years ago and that 25 years ago there were also many more bars and there was much more prostitution?
      That's not what I want.

Currently in Phuket, have been coming here for +10 years – most of the small bars along the street have disappeared, Rawai is extinct, everyone says the same that they make almost no income. Although I have never seen so many people during the Low Season on Bangla as now, but almost all Asians, Arabs and Indians who just watch; the nicest anecdote I heard from a bar owner was 4 Indians sharing one drink with 4 straws.
In other words: How do you slaughter a goose with golden eggs…

Yes Jeff, too sad to look at. Last year on the beach in Jomtien played before my eyes that 3 Russians wanted to rent 3 beach chairs for 50 Bath in total. No, the lady owner said, it's 90 Bath. They took 2 chairs for 60 Bath. They alternated the chairs, each time 1 went swimming. I could see the humor in it, the owner couldn't. And if the city council wants the future of Pattaya to depend on all those 'neat' families, they can sometimes come home from a rude awakening. For decades, Pattaya's appeal has been mainly due to its many bars and flamboyant nightlife. Without bars and the excitement that goes with it, everything else as well as real estate will take a big hit.

Basically the same thing that was done in Rotterdam. Katendrecht lifted. As a result, prostitution throughout the city.
Or like in Amsterdam where the not so bright L Asscher came up with the idea of sponsoring Mr Charles with tens of millions by buying up buildings in the Red Light District in order to close the windows of the ladies. Leaving the city of Amsterdam with a million noose and the ladies disappeared into illegality.
So here too the chickens with the golden eggs were slaughtered. You wonder what interests are behind it. You can only go to Mokum as a tourist to get high.
In Pattaya, this probably also has to do with the decision of the High Court years ago that the entire development on the beach side of Walking Street is illegal and must be demolished.
The corrupt gentlemen and ladies of course don't like that (rental income, protection money, etc.) and that is why a smokescreen is now being pulled up to 'clean things up'. Are you taking time again. Thai logic.

oh in 10 years something has indeed changed, and certainly not for the better, phuket was cozy now it is full of arabs, indians, ... and many owners complain bitterly, in pattaya there doesn't seem to be much at first sight changed but make it a family town? will never succeed, the artificial attempts to lure families will keep the other tourists away, soi 6 open at 1800pm ? give it a few years and pattaya is dead although it will not get that far, promote thailand better and invest in EVERY tourist, whether it be walking street or jomtien, or accept the exodus….but these stories are already there with been dozens .... don't let a single negative advice prevent you from going to Thailand, it is a beautiful country with something for everyone, sun, sea, beach, culture, and a nightlife and opportunities that many come for , let's call a cat a cat !it's all about money money !!! but isn't this the case everywhere? the decisions will all revolve around who opens the hand and who will close the filled or not filled hand .... are belgium and the netherlands now countries to be happy ???? I think not….

I am in favor of this. It could be a lot less and believe me there is life next to and instead of prostitution. Complete exclusion is not possible, because there is always a part of the men who need to go to the prostitutes. Money rules, unfortunately also in the wrong way. The ladies in question do need help to kick the habit and find a decent job, or to follow an education if they don't have it. I imagine they can't do this themselves, because the money is easily earned and a lot is for the maintenance of the family. That family also needs help, because there is quite a lot of poverty in Thailand. Re-education is lacking.
I read something about Amsterdam and that it had to be done less with the pink neighborhood, which some people did not appreciate. The same comment can also be made, but the emphasis is more on the criminal field. Something that a certain group of people is a sausage. In my working years at the police I was allowed to do the necessary research there and believe me there was a lot wrong with the ladies in question. Many of the ladies were not there for love of the profession I can tell you. For those interested among us, much has been written about it and can be found on the internet. Forced prostitution, exploitation, abuse and so on. This cannot be tolerated by the parties that have a say in it. So it's good that action was taken on that then.
But again I welcome these initiatives.

I have been coming to Pattaya since the early 90's; I agree that it has become safer. There are fewer beach accidents because there are simply no beach chairs on Wednesdays and Thursdays and no one there! The sea water was already dirty then, now it is rancid and oily. Swimming and boat accidents are also much less. Take your children to a clean beach in Sattahip; Between north and south pattaya it used to be green. Then they have everything full of streets with beer bars. Those have already been removed and tall buildings have been replaced with condos. On the roof of the Hilton hotel you can have a drink at an expensive price when it is dark and then you can see the lights of the residents, the result of a ghost town in the making! There are 5 lights on in an apartment building of 100 condos. Everything is for sale and no one wants to live there anymore. Even the Russians are giving up! Now the arrows are aimed at the Chinese, because they are coming in great numbers to there. These people follow a man with a flag, all of them go to the seven-eleven to buy noodle soups and then eat together in the hotel with the kettle!Since Prime Minister Taksin has been banned you can see the disappointment The nice and The loose atmosphere has completely changed into an artificial landscape where there is little to see. You can still eat well there, but you can do that anywhere in Thailand; I met my Thai wife there and we are now ignoring this city. It is ruined and I prefer to go to koh chang, koh samui, hua hin, etc. ,,
