Bangkok attracts fashion brands
Bangkok is becoming an attractive location for the world's most popular fashion brands.
Uniqlo opened its flagship store in CentralWorld today and hopes to open in CentralPlaza Lard Prao and Central Rama IX in the next two months. Zara, Gap, Breshka and Forever 21 Inc have already established themselves in the capital and brands such as H&M Sweden, Givenchy, Alexander Wang and Lanvin are eager to get there. The Emporium and Siam Paragon have a long waiting list of international fashion brands that want to rent space. They are attracted by the increasing purchasing power of local consumers and the increase in foreign tourism.
"Bangkok has a global market for fashion now the same way it used to be in Singapore and Hong Kong," said Chalit Limmpanavech, marketing specialist and director of the Thailand management association.
Tadashi Yanai, CEO of Uniqlo, points out that Thailand has great market potential because there are many young people who are interested in trends. 'It is a strategically important country in Uniqlo's quest to become the leading apparel brand in Asia.' Uniqlo's CentralWorld facility, which opened today, measures 2750 square meters and is the largest in Southeast Asia. The range consists of 500 items for babies, children and teenagers, designed in collaboration with the well-known designer Jil Sander.
The American fashion brand Forever 21 Inc recently opened its second branch of XXI Forever in CentralPlaza Lat Prao. Sales increased by 5 percent over the past 25 years; the brand expects the same percentage for the next five years. 'Though there is an economic recession in many parts of the world, the business of Forever 21 was not impacted', Larry Meyer notes with satisfaction. 'Even so, the recession is only a cycle. Our job is to offer affordable products by maintaining low overhead costs and offering a low margin.'

Who's going to buy that? Suppose 10% of the population is financially able to purchase it, only a small part of them will actually buy it. A copy is easily made, after all you already have a Thai evening dress for 200 Bath.
Every Departmentstore in Bkk is bursting with brands I don't know. I wonder who buys that at full price. If you wait 2-3 months, half of it is on sale.
I think it's more about having a point of sale in Bangkok Thailand than a real target audience you want to sell to.
