I heard from a friend that he had been confronted with a new phenomenon at Immigration Chiang Mai, at least new to me. It turns out that all foreigners must register via form TM30. This appears to be done at Immigration, or as it says above the form, at a local police station. The slip at the bottom of form TM30 is completed, stamped, cut and stapled in your passport.
