Unfortunately I have to divert to the EU route with my Thai partner, as it is impossible for her to master the Dutch language. She has done more than her best. So unfortunately I have to give up that road. Then the next option remains open for us, I have a large apartment in Germany. I will officially live there for 6 months and build up a proof file with rental contract / receipts / tank receipts etc. etc. After 6 months I will return to my home in NL. Then I appeal to EU law and apply for an EU residence card for her for a long-term stay in NL.

My girlfriend has only been in the Netherlands for 90 days, she went back home on November 3rd. On November 13, I had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital. After many investigations, I am having open heart surgery tomorrow. So I will be out of circulation for quite some time. The disadvantage is that I live alone and am 77 years old.

Dear Rob/Editor, A good Thai friend of mine has been in Europe/the Netherlands for almost 5 years now and is still married to a non-Dutch European. Her residence permit as a family member of an EU citizen expires at the end of this month, but her marriage is also coming to an end. The divorce procedure has been initiated, but nothing has been signed yet. She is currently working, can support herself (permanent contract) and now the question is what should she do…

Perhaps the following message will not be well received by everyone, but we, my Thai partner and I, deliberately exceeded the 90 days Schengen visa this time. She has been here 41 days longer than allowed. The reason is that my mother, with whom she has a very close relationship, was dying and would not live more than a month.

Dear Rob/Editor, Short question regarding flight. My Cambodian girlfriend (who has been in Belgium for many years) will be returning to Belgium at the beginning of September with C-Visa/Short Stay 90 days. Soon (Monday 29/08) she will receive her visa from the French embassy in Phnom Penh. Now we are going to submit a marriage proposal in Belgium with all the necessary documents (legalized and translated and legalized), which is possible and the city is already aware. My question, should I…

Dear Rob/Editor, I have a question about the validity period of the guarantee for a Schengen visa. My Thai girlfriend wants to go to the VFS in Bangkok at the end of October to apply for a visa. She has to be in Bangkok then so it's nice to do it then; we live 700 km from bangkok, hence. We intend to go to the Netherlands for 2023 weeks in mid-April 3. My son in the Netherlands will…

Dear Rob/Editor, My Thai partner's Schengen visa application has been rejected. We are considering engaging an immigration lawyer. Are there Thailandblog readers who have experience with this themselves and want to share their experiences with us? For example, which law firm, method, costs, result, etc. We have already Googled, but we are mainly looking for reactions from experts by experience. Other useful comments are of course also welcome. Thanks in advance, Wilai and Rob Dear Rob and Wilai, I …

My girlfriend and I met in Thailand in 2017. Always kept in touch and in 2020 the contact became so intensive that a relationship emerged. Last year (2021) at Christmas and the turn of the year I visited her in Thailand, met family and at the moment I am on holiday with her again. I would also like to introduce her to my environment and that is why we started preparing a visa application.

We have now applied for a Schengen visa twice for my Thai sister-in-law and her three-year-old son. My wife has been living in the Netherlands for 16 years and she would like to invite her sister and nephew for a holiday. No success. The reason is that the Dutch embassy doubts that she will return to Thailand.
