Weekend Koh Si Chang
There are many fun things to do in the Pattaya area. You just need to know. Such as a visit to the island of Koh Si Chang, which is not directly a tourist island.
'Never Shut Off Engine'
Suddenly he was there, full in the light of our headlights. We had the instructions firmly in our ears, so I switched from high beam to low beam and backed up slowly, while Mieke tried to shoot the elephant in the near darkness. With her camera, of course.
Cambodia in a nutshell
The tour through a part of Cambodia is reason for a short review. Let's start at the beginning; a visa is required for Cambodia and to clear up any misunderstandings, you can simply get that visa at the border or the airport. You fill out a form, then add a passport photo and pay $30.
Eating crab in Kep (Cambodia)
After the extensive information during the visit to the pepper plantation, the journey continues by tuk tuk through the interior. On the way we make a short stop at a so-called elephant cave. Have to gather my strength as I look at the many stairs that lead up. Even somewhat puffing, three young children hop upstairs with me with the greatest of ease.
Pepper and salt from Kampot
The emergence of pepper in the Kampot region dates back to the 13th century with the arrival of the Chinese who cultivated pepper. More recently, it was the French who further developed pepper production in Kampot at the beginning of the 20th century. The current annual production is currently 8000 tons. In particular, the knowledge that has been passed on from generation to generation over many years ensures a high level of quality.
From Sihanoukville to Kampot
After enjoying the beach of Sihanoukville for a few days, the fantastic sunset and feasting on super fresh seafood with a view of the sea, the journey through Cambodia continues.
From Phnom Pehn to Sihanoukville
I pay 10 dollars for the almost six-hour minibus ride. How the Cambodian calculates remains a mystery to me. There are six passengers in the van, who each paid the same amount for the 220-kilometer ride. Two drivers man the van and take turns halfway through. You really don't have to be a math whiz, nor do you need a calculator to calculate the 'profit'.
From Siem Reap to Phnom Penh
After visits to the overwhelming Ankor Wat complex and a boat trip to Kampong Plouk, the journey continues to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.
Super Low Season in Thailand
Traveling during the low season has a number of attractive sides. Even in the most touristy places you can view everything at your leisure, always find a nice table at a restaurant and - not unimportantly - the hotel prices are significantly lower.
A visit to Wat Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai
Today we go to Wat Doi Suthep, the most famous temple in Changmai and the surrounding area. There are more than 300 temples (wats) in and around Chiang Mai, almost as many as in Bangkok. There are no less than 36 in the old center of Chiang Mai alone.
Manila-Cebu-Bohol, a retrospective
The trip to Bohol in the Philippines is over. Reason to look back and share findings. From Bangkok the flight takes about 3½ hours and the most obvious airlines for a direct flight to Manila are; Cebu Pacific and Thai Airways.
Chocolate Hills
The purpose of my trip to the island of Bohol in the Philippines is, among other things, a visit to the so-called Chocolate Hills. In fact the main attraction of the island.
By boat from Cebu to Bohol
After spending a few days in Cebu City, the journey continues today by boat to Tagbilaran, the capital of Bohol.
Pilgrim in Cebu
Arriving by boat from Manila in Cebu City, I take a few days to get to know the city a little better. The St. Mark Hotel where I have taken up residence is neat, perfectly clean and nothing but praise for the room, breakfast and staff. Unfortunately I can't say that about the place itself.
By boat from Manila to Cebu
Of course you can cover the distance between Manila and Cebu a lot faster by air, but that is a lot less fun and challenging than the trip by boat
The Unknown Wonders of Southwest Thailand
Southwest Thailand has more to offer the holidaymaker than the popular toppers such as Phuket and Krabi. Less well-known but certainly worth a visit are also the dream island of Koh Yao and Khao Sok, Thailand's largest national park. Ideal for those who want to get to know the authentic life of the population and the beautiful nature full of exotic animals and plants.
Vacation in Kanchanaburi
A while ago we were with a group of nine people for a few days in Kanchanaburi, a province west of Bangkok, which borders Myanmar (Burma).
