Beach on Koh Samet covered in oil slurry
Ao Phrao beach on the island of Samet is covered with a layer of oil over a length of 1 kilometer. Eight hundred employees of the oil company PTT are trying to prevent further spread, because the oil poses a threat to nearby maritime reserves. A 50.000 liter oil slick may threaten Rayong's popular Mae Ramphung beach. Ships are spraying solvents over the stain. The oil comes from a leak that started early yesterday morning.
