De Volkskrant in Thailand
Here in Thailand I obviously keep up with the Dutch newspapers via the internet, so that I can stay informed of the ups and downs in the Netherlands. When I still lived in Alkmaar I subscribed to De Volkskrant for decades, for which I got up half an hour earlier than necessary to read that newspaper before going to work.
Go live in the Isan
After the decision to move to the Thai Boezewush, De Inquisitor realizes that there is work to be done. A lot of work. Done with the debauched life there in Pattaya.
You have to go to Bangkok for a new passport
Unfortunately, I still had a passport that was only valid for five years. It had to be replaced by October 9 with a copy that will retain its value for ten years. Lizzy's Dutch travel document expired around the same date, although it must be replaced every five years until she turns eighteen due to the changing appearance.
It's raining in Thailand
Well, it rains in Thailand, that in itself is not news. It's that time of year and rain is good. Everything that grows and blooms lives on it, the (rice) farmers need it and the streets are neatly washed clean.
Isan Medical Center
The Inquisitor has pain, quite a lot, in his lower back. After the second day it started to disturb his sleep. But the Inquisitor also has a weakness: doctor phobia squared. How does that continue?
The advanced payment system
In an earlier blog I wrote something about opening a bank account, and more recently I wrote about the many jobs here in Thailand, which we haven't seen in the Netherlands for a long time. You could almost read that I think it's just an old-fashioned lot here, but nothing could be further from the truth. When it comes to redundant jobs, the Netherlands has no reason to look down on Thailand. Neither does it when it comes to online payment transactions
My neighbor's death
A day before he would have turned 76, a family member dies. In this post he describes the preparations for the cremation. The men build tents, the women cook.
The wild forest nymph on Koh Samet
Hans dances on Koh Samet with a wild forest nymph, they celebrate Songkran together, he exchanges e-mails with her, but suddenly contact stops…..
Life as a Single Farang in the Jungle: From the South to Isaan 9. Reflection and conclusion
Up at 6 am, no problem for Lung Addie. Once the day dawns, he is, as usual, already out of bed. He wants to leave at 7 o'clock because it will be a long drive and wants to drive as little as possible in the dark. It really wouldn't be disturbing if there had to be some distance in the dark as Lung addie would already be on familiar territory.
Monk in Pattaya
Those Thais are wonderful people, aren't they? Yesterday I attended a gigantic celebration to mark the fact that a boy became a temporary monk.
Dutch women's national champion of Europe
You also want to know on Thailandblog.nl that the Dutch women's team has become champion of Europe, but how do you make a connection with Thailand?
Washing feet… we have to go to the dentist!
It is one of the least attractive pastimes that exist, but we cannot escape it in Thailand either: visits to the dentist. Tartar and plaque also grow happily here, and because there are almost no dishes that do not contain sugar, the enamel layer in your mouth is also under constant attack.
Kees, a lost tourist on Koh Samui
Hans meets a Dutchman who runs a bungalow park on Koh Samui with his Thai girlfriend. 'I never saw Kees again, but I still think of him sometimes. Would he still be there?'
Living as a Single Farang in the jungle: From the South to Isaan (day 8) back to the South
Deadly danger
It seems to be an ordinary morning walk with Tibbe. Well, not quite normal, because we are about to leave for Chiang Mai, so I am alone and a bit later than usual. Suddenly I see him, in the middle of the road. A snake.
The Inquisitor in Bangkok
What if you temporarily exchange Isaanland for Bangkok? The Bangkok of those typical smells, tropical humid, exotic with a touch of putrefaction without being disturbing. But also fragrant because of the countless food stalls, the restaurants that contain the entire world cuisine. The heat that lingers between the skyscrapers, the steaming asphalt. The menacing air of the monsoons, the raging thunderstorms that pressurize this gigantic bowl of soup.
threesome
Sometimes there is a lot to tell, but we don't want to bother you with a new blog every day. That's why we're going to put three short pieces in one blog today.
