Here in Thailand I obviously keep up with the Dutch newspapers via the internet, so that I can stay informed of the ups and downs in the Netherlands. When I still lived in Alkmaar I subscribed to De Volkskrant for decades, for which I got up half an hour earlier than necessary to read that newspaper before going to work.

Unfortunately, I still had a passport that was only valid for five years. It had to be replaced by October 9 with a copy that will retain its value for ten years. Lizzy's Dutch travel document expired around the same date, although it must be replaced every five years until she turns eighteen due to the changing appearance.

Well, it rains in Thailand, that in itself is not news. It's that time of year and rain is good. Everything that grows and blooms lives on it, the (rice) farmers need it and the streets are neatly washed clean.

The Inquisitor has pain, quite a lot, in his lower back. After the second day it started to disturb his sleep. But the Inquisitor also has a weakness: doctor phobia squared. How does that continue?

In an earlier blog I wrote something about opening a bank account, and more recently I wrote about the many jobs here in Thailand, which we haven't seen in the Netherlands for a long time. You could almost read that I think it's just an old-fashioned lot here, but nothing could be further from the truth. When it comes to redundant jobs, the Netherlands has no reason to look down on Thailand. Neither does it when it comes to online payment transactions

Up at 6 am, no problem for Lung Addie. Once the day dawns, he is, as usual, already out of bed. He wants to leave at 7 o'clock because it will be a long drive and wants to drive as little as possible in the dark. It really wouldn't be disturbing if there had to be some distance in the dark as Lung addie would already be on familiar territory.

It is one of the least attractive pastimes that exist, but we cannot escape it in Thailand either: visits to the dentist. Tartar and plaque also grow happily here, and because there are almost no dishes that do not contain sugar, the enamel layer in your mouth is also under constant attack.

It seems to be an ordinary morning walk with Tibbe. Well, not quite normal, because we are about to leave for Chiang Mai, so I am alone and a bit later than usual. Suddenly I see him, in the middle of the road. A snake.

What if you temporarily exchange Isaanland for Bangkok? The Bangkok of those typical smells, tropical humid, exotic with a touch of putrefaction without being disturbing. But also fragrant because of the countless food stalls, the restaurants that contain the entire world cuisine. The heat that lingers between the skyscrapers, the steaming asphalt. The menacing air of the monsoons, the raging thunderstorms that pressurize this gigantic bowl of soup.
