Those who want to celebrate the turn of the year in Thailand have plenty of choice. But if you still need some help, we've listed the most important events.

Chiang Rai

Before the event'Happy New Year ASEAN 2020' you can go to Mae Sai, Chiang Rai on December 31, 2019. That is a collaboration with the province of Chiang Rai and the Thai-Myanmar Culture and Economic Association. The event takes place at the Thai-Myanmar Border Checkpoint in Mae Sai District and features cultural performances from Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. There are also pop concerts by singers and bands from all three countries.

Bangkok

  • The Thailand Countdown 2020 at ICONSIAM (December 31, 2019).
  • AIS Bangkok Countdown 2020 (December 31, 2019) at CentralWorld. Light shows, fireworks displays and performances.
  • World Magic Celebration (6 – 31 December 2019) at Siam Paragon. Enjoy a balloon party, international entertainment shows and the countdown.
  • Ratchaprasong Lighting and Countdown Festival 2019 (December 1, 2019 – January 5, 2020).
  • Emporium EmQuartier Winter Wonderland (November 20, 2019 – January 5, 2020). The event features a 20-meter high Christmas tree, colorful and cheerful light shows, musical performances and inflatable mascots.
  • Countdown 2020 at The Street Ratchada (November 22, 2019 – December 31, 2019). Activities include a 'Hip Party', CG and Lighting, plus the countdown to the New Year.

Phuket

  • Patong Beach Countdown 2020 (December 27 – 31, 2019) at Patong Beach, Phuket. Music mix from world class DJs, Simon Cabaret show and Siam Niramitr show.

Pattaya

  • Pattaya Countdown: Universe of Entertainment. The main acts at the December 29-31 music festival at Bali Hai Pier include Klear, Sweet Mullet, Potato, Modern Dog and Big Ass. Shows are held every day from 17.00pm to midnight.

Udon Thani

  • Udon Thani Countdown 2020 (December 30 – 31, 2019) at UD Town Shopping Mall. Music performances by Thai singers and bands plus a light show.

Khon Kaen

  • Khon Kaen Countdown 2020 (December 25 – 31, 2019) at Khon Kaen City Park. Musical performances by Thai singers and bands plus a countdown and a grand fireworks display.

    I appreciate the tips, especially as a tourist here in Thailand, but… any tips for the country's 2nd largest city? That's where I happen to be, in Chiang Mai.

    This is what the municipality of Pattaya indicates:

    Motorcycles will be allowed to park under the flyover on Pratamnak Road.

    Cars and trucks must use designated Park areas at the pier, Big C and Tesco-Lotus South Pattaya, Pattaya School No. 8, Chaimongkol Temple, Royal Garden Plaza, Central Festival Pattaya Beach and Big C extra.
