Pattaya Mayor Sonthaya Kunplome said the Songkran water festival will return in April, with the city sponsoring an official “wan lai” celebration.
Last year, the corona pandemic threw a spanner in the works, but this year Songkran will be celebrated again in a big way.
The mayor says the city government started preparations for Songkran activities as early as March 5 after the Thai government gave the green light for festivals across the country. The government believes they have the coronavirus pandemic under control enough to allow a large-scale celebration of Songkran.
In Pattaya, the official celebration will take place on April 19. In addition to the 'wan lai' days from April 18-19, the city will host a senior day at Chaimongkol Temple, the kong khao festival at Lan Po Public Park in Naklua, and another kong-khao ceremony at the Nong Yai Temple.
Extra day
Songkran is normally celebrated nationally from April 13-15, but this year April 12 is added as an extra public holiday, so that the Thai have 6 consecutive days of vacation. In Pattaya, Songkran is even celebrated for 9 days and with this extra day it becomes 10 (bad luck for the Songkran haters).

Songkran is a World Heritage Site. Lol, at least for me.
As a senior I feel like I'm in my twenties again and there is no discrimination against graying tourists there, which you can't say in the West.
I have never had so much fun with water and certainly the last day with those performances at Beachroad Pattaya. It's like everyone is family, such a good atmosphere.
Too bad, but this year I will have to fit back because of that damn corona.
I'm going to see him for the first time this year, I've never been to Thailand with April before, but now retired I'm very curious!
For the children it is nice to have a large bowl of water in my street, for the adult men and women it is strange and with a mouth mask on nice and sticky in your face this year 5555. Make sure your phone does not get wet and if you rent a scooter only then be careful, these are the most dangerous days of the year, with many dead and injured.
