Saturday 16 June 2018 (Rotterdam) and Sunday 17 June 2018 (Deurne – North Brabant) there will be two performances by the famous Thai singer (Sorn Sinchai – ศร สินชัย) and the famous Thai singer (Newkoy Kannika – นิ้วก้อย ก รรณิการ์) from the Isan region.

Our low countries are blessed with regular performances by Thai artists who take our region on their European tour. If you like Thai music you have a great opportunity to see these people live at work. It is usually easier to attend concerts by Thai artists in our regions than on a holiday in Thailand. We briefly discuss the two Thai artists who are visiting.

Son Sinchai

Sorn Sinchai comes from Nong Khai, the city on the border with the capital of Laos, Vientiane, popular with some expats for the visa runs. He makes Mor Lam music and ballads. He is affiliated with the record label GMM Grammy Gold. A very famous song by Sorn Sinchai is ผัวเก่า (poewa kao) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bS-s3LVFxyY. In that song, a man laments that his beloved wife has left him, he looks back on his relationship and asks forgiveness for the mistakes he made. It is a story within a story, the man requests a song from Sorn Sinchai in the video clip because that song can better express his feelings.

Sorn Sinchai is loved because his songs are so poignant. But he also brings cheerful music as in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zqh6O5lEPxE (ออนซอนอีสาน – Oon Soon Isaan), a trio with Dok Oo and Kan Tong that has greatly contributed to his fame. He has been busy for about ten years now and continues to release hits such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2by44GFrIY (แค่ชู้ – Kaeae Chuu). He doesn't have mega hits that are played in all cafes, except Oon Soon Isaan, because his music is too intimate, but many of his songs easily reach several tens of millions of views on YouTube.

Newkoy Kannika

Newkoy Kannika brings Mor Lam music from Isaan. She started her career with two songs on a compilation CD released by GMM Grammy Gold in 2008, one of the major record labels in Thailand. She was 1 at the time. She comes from the Amphoe Mueang Nakhon Phanom, a region on the border with Laos. She has since appeared several times on GMM Grammy Gold compilation CDs.

She brings that music that is so typical for the Isaan region, close your eyes when you go to one of her concerts, let your imagination work and a few minutes later you think you are in Thailand on the Mekong River. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yNteGP0VMA (รักนอกหัวใจ – Rak Nok Hoewa Jai). She brings calm music in which eager use is made of the pin (Thai guitar) and the vibratos in the voice that is typical for Mor Lam music. The modern variant adds drums, bass, electric guitar and synthesizer. Another of her songs is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_th8hCf2bs (Fan Hoeway Dok Tjaan) and a more rocky song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RkUm821Ze0 (Tjai Yom Tjamnon).

There is also a Thai market where you can buy freshly made food and Thai products and the typical cozy atmosphere for which the Thai markets are known.

Tickets are available from various persons on the following telephone numbers (06-25072599, 06-15044581, 06-81214664, 06-15328501, 06-38475480). Tickets cost 25 euros at the box office and 20 euros in advance. The hall in Rotterdam opens at 18.00 p.m., in Eindhoven you can enter earlier, from 14.00 p.m.
