May 2024 promises to be a culturally special month in Thailand, rich in local festivities that reflect Thailand's heritage and sense of community.

Visakha Bucha Day will be celebrated nationwide on May 22, 2024. This important Buddhist festival coincides with the full moon of the sixth lunar month and honors the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha. Devotees from all over Thailand will participate in merit-making ceremonies and Wien Tien ceremonies, which involve walking around a temple three times as a sign of spiritual devotion and community spirit.

The celebrations for Visakha Bucha Day take place in various locations including historic Sukhothai, Nakhon Phanom and Kalasin, each with their own unique customs. Of special note is the 51st World's Only Wien Tien Ceremony on Water, which will be held at Phayao Lake from May 22 to 24, offering a breathtaking display of devotion against the picturesque backdrop of the lake.

In addition to the religious festivities, May is also full of cultural and sporting events. The Bun Bung Fai Rocket Festival, which marks the start of the rainy season, is celebrated in Yasothon, Kalasin and Roi Et. Other highlights include the Mango Art Festival in Bangkok, the Krabi Wellness Festival and the international sporting event OCEANMAN Krabi. The Samui Regatta also extends into early June. The OUTDOOR FEST in Bangkok introduces visitors to the latest trends in outdoor activities and equipment.
