In De Volkskrant I read a beautifully written story by the writer Jerry Goossens entitled “Please don't make jokes about tummies? Thank you, on behalf of all men!”. It is a story to entice you to buy his recently published book “The big old dick book”. This book covers all the facts and fables about the aging male body and brain.

Because even though the man always remains a rocking rascal in his head, a lot changes in a man's life when he reaches a certain age. What about hair loss, a starting tummy, less stamina and impotence? Are we all going through a midlife crisis or are we just getting prettier as we get older (despite the baldness)? Do you really need to eat healthier and exercise more once you reach middle age? In this book you will find scientifically substantiated answers, interviews with experts and recognizable experience stories.

I haven't read the book yet, but I definitely will, because I do belong to the target audience to some extent. I will now limit myself to two reviews (out of many) that I came across on the bol.com website.

Review 1

What a wonderful book this is! No nonsense approach with a lot of humor to laugh about everything that should interest the aging chap or at least he needs to know. Nice combination of life experiences of the writer, self-mockery and supported by accessible scientific matters. Amazing how much nonsense and so-called laws are put in the right place and the core is caught. A book of only 200 pages that you are never too old to start, but better to pick up before you turn 40.

Review 2

Very good book! Read it in one go. Due to the humorous writing style, it reads like a train, despite the fact that it addresses unknown themes for non-medically trained people. The light-hearted way of telling, combined with the personal anecdotes, make it very recognizable for all men, while it does not get in the way of the serious subjects at all. Without being forced to be funny, numerous themes are discussed that concern every middle-aged man. A strong point is that leading experts regularly speak to explain the themes and provide scientific background information. I can recommend it 100%.

Finally

Google the title of the book and you will find several websites with additional information. On Bruna.nl you can even see and read some pages of the book. The ideal gift for Father's Day on June 19th!

This book seems interesting… looked it up at (Google) play books as an e-book and you can buy it for 9,99 Euro. At Bol.com it is offered for 22 Euro. On “play books” you can also read a bit before deciding to buy it. At Kobo (e-book) it also costs only 9,99 Euro.
At Amazon.com it is the most expensive: 38 Euro!
So… if you want to read it in Thailand, the e-book version is the easiest and cheapest! 365 Baht!

I would add that I bought the book today, but it didn't go straight. Play books from Google reported that I could not buy this book in Thailand. It didn't work with Kobo either. But I installed a VPN app (Super VPN) on my tablet and when it ran, the purchase was a breeze and I now own that book.

I have recommended this book several times after reading it. Recommended. PS I am 66.
