Although there is often a post about the Sanctuary of truth appeared on Thailandblog I discovered a fantastically beautiful video on YouTube: The Sanctuary of Truth Pattaya unseen in Thailand.

It is the largest handmade wooden shrine in the world. The main style is based on the Thai architecture of the Ayutthavan period, richly decorated with Hindu-Buddhist hand-carved wooden sculptures from different artistic traditions.

In the side wings you can discover different art and culture from Cambodia, China, Indonesia and Thailand. The aim is to use this art and cultural expression as a reflection on the old ideas of earth, water, wind and fire and also the old view on knowledge and Eastern philosophy. Wooden statues have been designed above the four entrances, each holding something. At 1 entrance, a child is embraced by an adult, who represents the peaceful society. The main entrance depicts the universal in search of peace and truth to arrive at a Utopia.

Khun Lek and Khun Prapai Viriyahbhun wanted to pass on their philosophical attitude to the next generation. They are also the creators of the Erawan museum and of the Muang Boran, the old city, both in and near Bangkok.

Khun Lek died November 17, 2000 at the age of 86.

We were there about 8 years ago and it was still under construction.
Everywhere around the structure you had woodcarvers who were busy with the statues or parts
to make of the temple. At the time not as touristy as I see on the video now, but I want you all
recommend that if you are in the area pay a visit.

Bodhisattva, the "horse" at the highest point of The Sanctuary of Truth, 105 meters, has already been completely replaced by the high humidity and salty sea air.
