Cambodia welcomes a new UNESCO World Heritage listing of 'Sambor Prei Kuk', or 'the temple in the richness of the forest', an archaeological site of the ancient Ishanapura capital.

The forest temple from the 16th and 17th century should ensure an influx of tourists and that in turn generates income in the country. 'Sambor Prei Kuk' is located 206 kilometers north of the capital Phnom Penh. According to Unesco, the temple is part of Ishanapura, the capital of the ancient Chenla Empire, a Khmer civilization that flourished in the late 6th and 7th centuries and later merged into the Khmer Empire.

Many of today's tourists visit Cambodia for the world-famous Angkor Wat temple complex.

The number of tourist arrivals in Cambodia increased by 5% to five million visitors last year. About 5,5 million tourists are expected to visit the country this year.
