First Pole Dancing Olympic Gold to Pattaya?
The Thai media recently reported enthusiastically that it is quite conceivable that the first Olympic gold medal in pole dancing will end up in Pattaya. The International Pole Dancing Sports Federation (IPSF) has announced that pole dancing has been granted "observer status" by the International Sports Federation, meaning that it is provisionally recognized as a sport.
If you still think that pole dancing is only practiced by strippers in a go go bars, then I tell you that pole dancing has grown into a worldwide practiced sport. National and international tournaments are organized in several disciplines, with the World Championship as the annual highlight.
Pole dancing in Thailand
Thailand could indeed have been the birthplace of pole dancing. Scantily clad young ladies who compete in a go go bars with a chromed pole in an attempt to entertain the audience and in this way to be invited by a guest for a chat and a drink. In most cases it is not much - an English columnist once called the ladies "chrome pole molesters" -, but occasionally there is a nice show. The best show in that area in Pattaya, in my opinion, can be seen in Angelwitch.
Pole dancing in the world
As mentioned, the sport of pole dancing is practiced in many countries, which has disciplines with compulsory exercises, but free practice is also usually on the program. By the way, it is practiced by women and men, I would also like to add that the dress code – unlike the a go go bars – is very strict. Also in the Netherlands there are numerous opportunities throughout the country to practice the sport.
2017 World Championship
I am therefore pleased to be able to tell you that Zoë Timmermans, a 15-year-old young lady from Boxtel, became world champion in the Ultra Pole discipline this year. This exciting variation is designed to encourage creativity and innovation. Zoë defeated a Mexican and a Spanish girl in the final round.

Finally,
It seems to me undeniably true that the Thai women could be excellent pole dancers due to their flexibility and supple physique. If you look at the IPSF website, you will see many countries in the results, but Thailand is missing. If Thailand wants to have a say on the world stage, the sport will have to be organized. Only then is there a chance that the first gold medal at the Olympic Games (in 2020?) will indeed end up in Pattaya.

At the moment, pole dancing is not even recognized as a sport let alone an Olympic sport. Perhaps our great-great-grandchildren will experience it one day. But then we are 300 years later and they probably live on another planet.
What is striking about this photo is that no one is looking at the lady hanging from that pole.
At first I thought pole dancing was an Olympic sport, yes, but when I saw this clip I must admit that there is much more to it than sexy hanging or spinning on a pole. There is a lot involved here and I understand the appreciation of many. It's not my sport, but it doesn't have to be. To each his own.
Then Pattaya will get some serious competition from Angeles City in the Philippines. At the Dollhouse I saw a really nice show of 3 ladies hanging on 1 pole and performing all kinds of acrobatic stunts.
To implicitly assume that there would be a causal relationship between the relatively high number of standing poles in Patttaya and Angels City, and the level of the athletic performance of women who practice the pole dance sport there, seems to me absolutely no evidence.
Those who make such a symplistic connection could well end up in a bad position 🙂
