First Pole Dancing Olympic Gold to Pattaya?
The Thai media recently reported enthusiastically that it is quite conceivable that the first Olympic gold medal in pole dancing will end up in Pattaya. The International Pole Dancing Sports Federation (IPSF) has announced that pole dancing has been granted "observer status" by the International Sports Federation, meaning that it is provisionally recognized as a sport.
If you still think that pole dancing is only practiced by strippers in a go go bars, then I tell you that pole dancing has grown into a worldwide practiced sport. National and international tournaments are organized in several disciplines, with the World Championship as the annual highlight.
Pole dancing in Thailand
Thailand could indeed have been the birthplace of pole dancing. Scantily clad young ladies who compete in a go go bars with a chromed pole in an attempt to entertain the audience and in this way to be invited by a guest for a chat and a drink. In most cases it is not much - an English columnist once called the ladies "chrome pole molesters" -, but occasionally there is a nice show. The best show in that area in Pattaya, in my opinion, can be seen in Angelwitch.
Pole dancing in the world
As mentioned, the sport of pole dancing is practiced in many countries, which has disciplines with compulsory exercises, but free practice is also usually on the program. By the way, it is practiced by women and men, I would also like to add that the dress code – unlike the a go go bars – is very strict. Also in the Netherlands there are numerous opportunities throughout the country to practice the sport.
2017 World Championship
I am therefore pleased to be able to tell you that Zoë Timmermans, a 15-year-old young lady from Boxtel, became world champion in the Ultra Pole discipline this year. This exciting variation is designed to encourage creativity and innovation. Zoë defeated a Mexican and a Spanish girl in the final round.
I could not find a video of Zoë Timmermans at this World Championship, but below an impression of her exercise during the Dutch Championship.

Finally,
It seems to me undeniably true that the Thai women could be excellent pole dancers due to their flexibility and supple physique. If you look at the IPSF website, you will see many countries in the results, but Thailand is missing. If Thailand wants to have a say on the world stage, the sport will have to be organized. Only then is there a chance that the first gold medal at the Olympic Games (in 2020?) will indeed end up in Pattaya.
About this blogger
-
Bert Gringhuis (1945), born and raised in Almelo in the beautiful Twente. Later lived for many years in Amsterdam and Alkmaar, working in export for various companies. I first came to Thailand in 1980 and immediately fell in love with the country. Been back many times since then and moved to Thailand after my (early) retirement as a widower. I have been living there for 22 years now with my somewhat younger Thai lady Poopae.
My first experiences in Thailand as a kind of newsletter sent to family, friends and acquaintances, which later appeared under the name Gringo on Thailandblog. Many, many articles followed those first stories and that has grown into an almost daily hobby.
In the Netherlands still an avid footballer and football referee, but the years are starting to tell and in Thailand still avid, but the pool billiards is really of inferior quality, ha ha!

It's fun to watch, but I really can't take this seriously. This has nothing to do with sports at all. Then classical dance and all other variations have more right to speak.
Pole dancing, category, erotic and aphrodisiac entertainment.
If checkers is considered a sport, I see no reason not to recognize pole dancing as a sport………
Checkers is also not an Olympic sport as far as I know.
If you think about it that way, then you should also dispose of gymnastics, because that is just spinning around lying poles, hanging in rings, walking over a beam, jumping over a trestle or showing some tricks on a mat, whether or not with rings, ribbons, cones, a ball or whatever….
Of course it is more than that…..
Think you're underestimating the physical effort, strength and technique required to perform at top level. Actually, pole dancing is just an extra device in addition to the other gymnastics equipment such as beam, bridge, etc
Can't be compared at all with a girl holding on to a pole on stage and meanwhile showing her assets to the rhythm of music from the local hit parade until someone pulls her number. The latter is indeed pole dancing, category of erotic and aphrodisiac entertainment.
Besides, dancing is indeed a sport.
“Dancing is a candidate Olympic sport and was once in the thirties. Dancing was one of the medal sports at the 2005 World Games.”

Well and whether it's sport, have you ever seen the muscles of these ladies.
Or even tried to climb a pole.
Yes, you can also watch it erotically, but it is indeed a sport
Uh John,
By my simple understanding, this girl has such tremendous muscle control, which you don't get when you're lugging heavy shopping bags from AH.
All gymnasts and gymnasts m/f also have this mastery.
This is really top sport and a training from I have you there.
The pole dancing you're talking about can be seen in go-go bars and yes, that's erotic.
And I have not been able to discover anything erotic in this lady, only a well-trained figure and many hours of torture with her trainer.

Two notes:
1. there are sports that the Thais excel at more than pole dancing if I am to believe the article. For example, I call sepak takraw. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uoSBOFqNFA. Various team sizes, men and women. And of course also Muang Thai boxing
2. It would be nice if a Thai won the gold medal in pole dancing before Prayut leaves. After all, he always participates in some sport when he receives the winner (s) or winner (s) such as golf, badminton, saprak takraw. (wink)
Two comments. Sepak takraw is only practiced in a few countries and then you will soon be the best. And is Muang Thai a new form of boxing.
Pole dancing became known in the XNUMXs when the pole dance first appeared in Canadian strip clubs. However, the origins of sensual athleticism at the dance pole go back further; on show elements from the Chinese circus. Google remains a true source of information.
Been to Angelwitch recently. I'd say never mind.
Did see a nice pole dance show across the street at Sapphire.
And I the past at the Queen club in Soi LK metro and at the Pheremon club.
I probably got that last name wrong. Think it's a tricky name.
But wanted to mention it. I saw a lady swinging on the pole about my own size (110 kg). But a great show from that girl.
At the moment, pole dancing is not even recognized as a sport let alone an Olympic sport. Perhaps our great-great-grandchildren will experience it one day. But then we are 300 years later and they probably live on another planet.
What is striking about this photo is that no one is looking at the lady hanging from that pole.
At first I thought pole dancing was an Olympic sport, yes, but when I saw this clip I must admit that there is much more to it than sexy hanging or spinning on a pole. There is a lot involved here and I understand the appreciation of many. It's not my sport, but it doesn't have to be. To each his own.
Then Pattaya will get some serious competition from Angeles City in the Philippines. At the Dollhouse I saw a really nice show of 3 ladies hanging on 1 pole and performing all kinds of acrobatic stunts.
To implicitly assume that there would be a causal relationship between the relatively high number of standing poles in Patttaya and Angels City, and the level of the athletic performance of women who practice the pole dance sport there, seems to me absolutely no evidence.
Those who make such a symplistic connection could well end up in a bad position 🙂
