While excessive rainfall causes flooding in many parts of Thailand, it is important for many victims to take all kinds of measures to limit the flooding. For example, a particular problem that can arise in a flooded area is that one can just be confronted with a crocodile that has escaped from a neighboring crocodile farm.

Inspection of crocodile farms

Thailand's Ministry of Fisheries has therefore instructed its provincial branches in 14 flood-affected provinces to monitor crocodile farms. And, if necessary, to instruct the operators to take measures so that the reptiles cannot escape if the farms are located in flooded areas. It is recommended, among other things, to install grids or to raise the earthen walls around the breeding ponds.

Ministry advice

According to The Nation, the ministry's deputy director-general, Wicharn Ingsrisawang, has said all crocodile farms have now received a warning letter. In Kalasin province, a comprehensive inspection of 22 crocodile farms has already taken place, and it has been established that the instructions of the ministry are strictly adhered to. Here and in other provinces there have been no reports of crocodiles escaping from their ponds.

Meldingen

Wicharn urged anyone who spots a crocodile in water outside a breeding facility to alert the Department of Fisheries on (02) 562 0600.

Bert Gringhuis (1945), born and raised in Almelo in the beautiful Twente. Later lived for many years in Amsterdam and Alkmaar, working in export for various companies. I first came to Thailand in 1980 and immediately fell in love with the country. Been back many times since then and moved to Thailand after my (early) retirement as a widower. I have been living there for 22 years now with my somewhat younger Thai lady Poopae.
My first experiences in Thailand as a kind of newsletter sent to family, friends and acquaintances, which later appeared under the name Gringo on Thailandblog. Many, many articles followed those first stories and that has grown into an almost daily hobby.
In the Netherlands still an avid footballer and football referee, but the years are starting to tell and in Thailand still avid, but the pool billiards is really of inferior quality, ha ha!

  1. Jacques says up

There is little resistance to natural disasters and they often come suddenly. You will only find such a beast in your backyard. Whether these measures have been taken by every breeder, I dare to doubt. These are all additional costs, which people are not waiting for and thinking through is not the strongest point of many in this country. Mustard to the meal is rather the motto. This kind of problem also occurs in Vietnam in the estuary near Saigon, near the sea, which is flooded every year. Anyway, we read or see it on the news and continue with the order of the day and this is also possible.
