Calendar: March 17 National Muay Thai Day
In Thailand, March 17 is the day when lovers of Thai boxing (Muay Thai) reflect on this sport. It is not a public holiday, but there are events at various Muay Thai stadiums and training camps. It is also a day with special significance for the city of Ayutthaya, home of the legendary Thai boxer Nai Khanom Tom.
A statue of Nai Khanom Tom stands in Ayutthaya (in the provincial sports field) and on this day, Thai boxers and locals will pay their respects to the hometown hero by draping his statue with flower garlands.
