The Highways Department has opened a number of new toll gates in Chonburi. These are located in the vicinity of Baan Bung, Bangpra, Nongkam, Pong and Pattaya. They will be taken into use from April 19, 2018.

A ride from Bangkok to Pattaya, a journey of 126 kilometers, will cost 105 Baht. Less than a Baht per kilometer. Local residents from Chonburi can still use the parallel roads. However, the toll road will have a better road surface, a better drainage system, lighting, fewer crossings and 24-hour surveillance.

However, to get it fully operational, there must be enough staff. So far there has been little response to the advertisements for 200 employees. Work is done in 3 shifts, each 8 hours and the earnings are 8.690 Baht, excluding allowances and transport to and from home. The first service starts at 6 AM.

The department expects that 300.000 vehicles will use this toll road.

The suggestion is made that this is a new way in the last sentence, but nothing could be further from the truth. It's just the BKK Chonburi Highway No. 7 at issue here, a lot of work has been done south of Chonburi city in recent years, and some toll gates have now been moved from the main road to on and off ramps. I also read that tolls would go up; from Bangkok to Ban Bueng / Chonburi that is certainly not the case because you still pay the same for it, but it may now be a bit more expensive to go to Pattaya. Drink less beer than or negotiate a discount with the bar ladies to compensate.

What could have given rise to the suggestion of a new way escapes me entirely.

There is clear talk of installing new toll gates!

The title 'Ride from Bangkok to Pattaya will cost tolls' somewhat suggests that this has not been the case until now.
'The toll road will have a better etc…' also suggests that the road is not there yet.
Moreover, you can simply measure how many people use an existing road, that will not change drastically with a few Baht tolls, so the fact that the department expresses an expectation about the number of vehicles that will use the toll road also suggests that there is something new under the sun.

I don't see anywhere that the suggestion is made that this is a new way. However, many improvements have been made to the road surface and lighting. What is really new are the toll gates at the exits!

Should the toll become too expensive via the 3 is free and costs 15 minutes more from Jomtien to Subvarnahbumi. And you also see something.
Other option is by train or bus 🙂

At an amount of 1200 to 1600 baht for a ride to / from Pattaya-Bangkok, 105 baht extra costs are of course surmountable.
Another insider tip: walking is EVEN cheaper.

Last Saturday I drove from Chon Buri to Pattaya. I got a ticket at the entrance in Chon Buri and the old payment booths near Chon Buri had already been largely demolished. At the Nong Prue exit I had to pay 2 Baht, which I used to have to pay in Chon Buri, but it turns out this is a trial to test the pay booths.
Incidentally, if you drive from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Pattaya, you also pay toll for the first part to Chon Buri, unless you continue to drive down, but if you take this route to Pattaya, you will definitely lose 1 hour and 7 minutes MORE than on the highway. 3 .The first part down the 30 is full of trucks and U-turns and from Chon Buri to Jomtien you have at least 6 traffic lights but it is indeed 3 kilometers shorter via the XNUMX .
