Thai police are conducting an autopsy on a former deputy chief of the Royal Thai Police Department, after the latter died unnaturally after falling from the seventh floor of a shopping mall.

National Police deputy spokesman Pol Col Krisana Pattanacharoen said investigators are collecting evidence. Eyewitnesses to the incident are also being looked into. An autopsy report is expected to be ready within 30 days.

It is remarkable that relatives have not contacted the police to raise doubts about the cause of death. CCTV footage shows the retired police veteran jumping from the seventh floor of a shopping mall, leading to the belief that he committed suicide.

A second striking fact is that Major General Salang's body was not transported to hospital according to standard procedure. The only thing the police wanted to say was that a security officer was the first person to find the victim.
