The capital Nan with the province of Nan has been declared the cleanest city in Thailand by the Thai king Maha Vajiralongkorn. In addition, the city of Nan is listed as the “No. 2018 Asean Clean Tourist City”.

Prior to this, intensive cooperation took place between the officials of the province and the residents of the city to keep the houses and streets clean and to take care of them and to offer the waste separately. The citizens are proud of this recognition and the appreciation of the king. It is hoped that this example will spread to other parts of Thailand.

Paisan Vimonrat, the governor of Nan province, also felt honored and strengthened by the king's praise and wanted to maintain this high standard by paying constant attention to beauty, health and hygiene.

For example, they want to ban plastic and replace it with biodegradable packaging. Sports minister Weerasak also found it a pleasure to cycle through the province without seeing waste and the like.

In addition to Nan, Yasothon and Trang were also nominated as clean cities by the 'Asean Clean City'.

Nan is located in the north of the country on the border with Laos. The province is home to different population groups such as the local Thai Yuan, Thai Lue, Thai Puan, Thai Khoen and Thai Yai making this area rich in languages and culture. Its history, development and architecture are strongly influenced by the various kingdoms around it, especially that of Sukhothai, which played an important political and religious role in the development of the province. Over time, Nan grew into an independent principality under the supervision of Lan Na, Sukhothai, Burma and Siam.

A large part of the population lives from agriculture, especially rice and fruit cultivation. With more than six national parks such as the very beautiful Doi-Phukha National Park, the province is very popular for ecotourism and adventurous trekking.

The small provincial capital has a distinctive laid-back charm and impressive temples that are attracting more and more visitors. On the river bank you can enjoy cozy restaurants.

What also struck me there is that in most of the city all cabling is underground. And at the 7 Eleven the advertising signs are made of brown wood (smartwood). To keep the city as authentic as possible, there is no nightlife either. So if you have eaten somewhere in the evening it is extinct afterwards. What is worthwhile is the Walking street twice a week. On two squares next to the Walking street there are low wicker tables where you can eat the purchased food. Nan is also known for its coffee shops, we visited several and the coffee was only mediocre. Dragon boat races are also held on the Nan River, the banks are made in such a way (stepwise) that you can sit there.

We have been coming to Nan (my parents-in-law) for years and it is indeed very clean and tidy, there are many things to admire and driving or cycling through the area is really beautiful.

Nan's fine, that first. Secondly, in the area during the winter months there are also many techo parties until late at night, house parties with huge noise nuisance until late at night and far into the surrounding area. Honesty also requires mentioning this. So you should definitely not go to Nan for a good night's sleep.

Which period should be considered? December to February?

And then throughout the week or just at the weekend?
