This time Lung addie is going to talk about the second category of writers: Informative writers.

The more 'informative' writers, also called columnists. These are people who write very interesting articles that are primarily aimed at future visitors to Thailand, as well as at people who have been living in Thailand for a long time and want to make some trips with a touristic character. It is not rare that people who live in a certain region still discover new places of interest in their own region through these informative articles. These writers also often talk about the historical knowledge and sights in Thailand.

It doesn't just roll out of the pen with this category of writers either. After all, they have to get their mustard from somewhere. Again Lung addie can't name all the authors in this article, so I'll limit myself to a few of them.

For example, Gringo with, over the years, more than 2000 entries, you just have to do it and for which all appreciation, does not just suck the articles out of his thumb. Some articles come about from my own experience, but many articles come about through daily monitoring of the media such as newspapers, other forums, browsing the internet…. These articles also often have to be translated from English into Dutch, which is quite a job of course. Gringo also publishes many articles under the name: de Editorial. Gringo not only writes informative articles but also stories. He therefore also belongs to the next group that will be discussed: story writers.

Historical articles, the current specialty of Lung Jan, for example. There is a lot of reading involved here. When he comes across useful information while reading a certain book or consulting the Internet, his work can begin. Again, the information found will usually be in English or Thai. Translate, edit, correct…. It takes a lot of work, energy and time to achieve an easily readable and correct result.

Often the writer of these articles has to inspect multiple sources. Especially if the source is from Thai literature. It is an open secret that historical facts are often misrepresented or distorted.

The same goes for press releases. Some versions, depending on the source, can often contain conflicting reports. Today someone is dead and tomorrow he is still alive…. Articles from the Thai government, especially when it comes to tourism or economics and figures are used… not infrequently, not only with bacon, but with whole pigs.

These are all things that the author must take into account and filter out what is right and wrong.

Articles related to the Thai language like this one by Tino Kuis. Lung Jan, Rob V. ….. Here too there was reasonable work to be done. After all, they first had to make the effort to learn this language, which is difficult for us. It is difficult to write such articles without first mastering the language yourself.

In this group we can also rank articles under the name 'De Redactie'. Most of them come from Khun Peter himself. Outside his work as a moderator, proofreader…. he is also constantly busy with his own input.

The authors of this category of articles show great dedication and passion. These writers really see this as their hobby and put their hobby at the service of the readers. They have a very big approach to the success of a blog like Thailandblog.nl.

This article was also created after consultation with the people involved, such as Gringo and the Editorial Board.

To be continued.

  1. Leo Th. says up

Well Lung addie, an interesting sequel. I make a deep bow for the columnists on Thailandblog. Not only because of the informative value of their submissions, but also because they invest so much of their free time in researching and drafting the stories.
