Reader Submission: Importing from the US from Thailand

It can sometimes be attractive to have goods sent from the US to Thailand. Sometimes companies in the US refuse to do business outside the US. Sometimes, see Amazon, certain items can only be shipped within the US. And so there are more causes. Also, shipping via DHL and similar services is expensive.

It is then possible to use the Thai express service. That Thai-run company is in San Jose CA. It ships once a week, on Saturdays, a container of collected items that customers have had delivered to them during that week. They take care of any repacking, the shipment to Thailand, the import facilities and the forwarding within Thailand to the destination.

The articles usually arrive in the course of the following week. Payment for the service is made in an amount, shipping, import duties and domestic shipping. The costs are determined per kilo or for light and voluminous boxes according to circumference. For payment, you will receive a line message from the company from Thailand with the amount due. Payment to their Thai bank account with a photocopy of the bank statement by line to Thaiexpress.

Requires a line account. You will receive an account number with your name and address details. Buying in the US is done in your own name, shipping to San Jose with your own name and account number. As a result, the seller does not know better whether the buyer is in the US. The account number is then for Thai express the identification where the item must go.

There are no options for extras such as tracking, insurance or prioritization. However, it is possible to request a private shipment when importing many products. The contact is in Thai language and via the line app.

Sometimes that is a bit difficult and response to your line message is often Thai, so late or not. Nevertheless, we have been doing business with this company for two years and have received a total of about 20 shipments without any problems. This concerned both small shipments and packages of 15 kilos and more.

For those interested I have a manual translated into poor Dutch.

Coincidentally, this post comes just in time.
many of us will have discovered that certain items are simply not available in Thailand because they simply do not meet a need.
A very stupid example is the following. It has nothing to do with ordering from the US.
Concerns racks or cabinets with adjustable shelves. Everything I encounter in cabinets or racks has the shelves at fixed distances.

I need a rollaway bed. Cannot be found in Thailand. In Europe and the US, yes. But, you don't feel like sending a complete bed around the world. Costs you gold. I would like to order the "hardware" ie the tilt mechanism and the springs for easy tilting separately and then send it to Thailand. In Thailand I can have the conversion and the bed made myself. It turns out that only the hardware can only be ordered separately in the US, but, indeed, they only deliver within the US.
That is why this message is very welcome for me

Very useful to know, because the transport costs are unreasonably high with the existing shipping companies. thanks for the tip

Hello Klaas, indeed many products are much cheaper there than in Thailand. But can you tell me what and where you buy your stuff. And what are the costs for transport and import duties per kilo? I always had the idea that those companies don't sell in Thailand because of all kinds of Thai rules. I always bought vitamin
at Puritan's pride. But they have stopped. I thought because of import duties. How do I get the translated manual? Indeed, transport costs are sometimes higher than the price of the product.

      Hi,

I scour the (USA) internet for whatever I need and order. Simply have it sent to San Jose and they'll do the rest. Pay in Thai Baht. For example, it concerned special bolts, beauty products, language software, raspberry accessories, you name it.
If you want the translated manual, give your email.
