Rainstorm

It has been quite a hectic event in Pattaya and the surrounding area lately. One prohibition stumbles over another prohibition. After last Thursday's chaotic lockdown to close several roads, a new system has now been devised. Large signs with red arrows indicate in Thai which places are control points.

Number 1 starts at the Maryvit School, number 2 is near Mini Siam (near Bangkok Hospital), number 3 refers to the entrance of Pattaya Nua (Pattaya North). There are a total of 8 checkpoints, all of which are located on Sukhumvit Road at the beginning of the access roads to Pattaya city. The latter comes in the vicinity of Huai Yai, corner of Sukhumvit. There, a few questions will be asked whether you are a resident of that area, whether you work there, what the purpose of the visit is. Furthermore, various pieces of evidence may be requested, such as a passport for farangs, proof of identification, home address, etc. If you meet various criteria, you may enter the city.

Drought

Another problem in Pattaya is drought and water supply. There has been a drought for a long time and problems with the water supply were foreseen. However, this has already announced itself earlier than the predicted June month. Despite a number of heavy rain showers in recent days, these were just drops on a glowing plate. The most famous lakes such as Maprachan Lake and Chaknork Lake still have 5 percent water!

The Provincial Water Boards have started rationing tap water in most Pattaya areas. The city is roughly divided into 3 sections. On even days, residents receive water between, for example, between 6.00 a.m. and 20.00 p.m.; on odd days, this applies to the other area. The third group is supplied with water twice a day for a few hours, for example (5-9 am and 4-8 pm).

Dry more

People can take a few measures themselves. Buy one or more black plastic water boxes in hardware stores that hold 50 liters of water. Or if you have the space, large water tanks from 2000 liters, which can be placed near the house. Unnoticed people use more water per day than expected, showering and toilet use are the biggest water guzzlers!

Unfortunately, the drought is not temporary and not just this year. The (monsoon) rains from June will no longer be able to compensate for the drought or to fill the empty lakes sufficiently.

For people who have holiday plans to Thailand. It is possible that these people are experiencing a shortage of water in their accommodation. Especially if you think you can take a nice shower at the end of the day and only a few drops appear. The hotels do have some storage capacities, but not infinite.

Outside the areas listed, people will experience less nuisance from the water shortage.

An overview of water supplies in the areas concerned:

On the odd numbered day

  • South Road, Thepprasit Road, Soi Wat Bunkachana and Soi Chaiyapruek 1, Soi Mabyailia 1-21 and Sukhumvit Soi 53 (5-9 am and 4-8 pm)
  • Central Road's southern side and Chaloemphrakiat Road (6 am – 8 pm)
  • Soi Khao Noi (5am – 6pm)
  • North Road's Northern Side (6am – 8pm)

On the Even numbered days these areas get water

  • Pratamnak Hill (5am – 6pm)
  • Central Road's northern side (6am – 8pm)
  • Sukhumvit Road near King Power, Soi Arunothai, Sois Sukhumvit 42-46/4 (6pm – 8pm)
  • Huay Yai Soi Chaiyapruek 2, Nong Heep and Khao Makok (5 am – 6 pm)
  • Pong, Rung Ruang Village, Soi Mabyailia 6-18/1 (5-9 am and 4-8 pm)

In the following areas will always temporarily on the day be water.

  • Soi Nernplubwan and Soi Tung Kom (every day 5-9 am and 4-8 pm)
  • Naklua Sois 25-33 and Pattayaniwed (5-9 am and 4-8 pm every day except April 15-16, 19, 23, 25, 27-28; and May 3-4, 7, 10-11 and 13).

Yes, it is very dry and we have been struggling with water problems here in Phuket since mid-January, fortunately the army and obortor regularly come by with water tanks to fill our tank, but in Town they have more problems, residents have to wash their water twice a day. fill the bucket. It was already predicted that that year would be extremely dry, so far that has turned out well.

    They're some suckers.
The water problem has been going on for years.
One would probably build a pipe from chachoensao to pattaya, so little would be done about it, so problems again or the money for this will hang somewhere again..

It is a pity that Thailand invests in weaponry but not in water treatment plants

Think I'll have a source of 40m or more made

Problems remain and are poorly or not resolved in Thailand
But the problem also lies with the people themselves, because if they announce not to wash the car and not to spray the street wet, then they will do it all because then their car will still be clean and so will the street.
Now we have the corona virus so no tourists and Songkran has been cancelled, which means a lot less water consumption, if this had not been the water supply would have been a problem much earlier.
And before real solutions come, we are still years away, the only thing they hope for with the government is that it will rain a lot, then they will be rid of that problem for the time being, as well as the smog.
So hiring a bunch of dancers to perform a rain dance might be a solution.
