Those planning to skip Thailand and go to Cambodia as a replacement, better take this into account, because: deposit $ 3.000 upon entry and all COVID-19 testing and accommodation costs will be charged to foreigners entering Cambodia.

  • Any foreigner entering Cambodia from June 11 will first have to pay USD 3.000. Can be cash or by credit card. This is to pay for the high COVID-19-related costs of testing and accommodation, among other things.
  • Under current regulations, both residents and foreigners entering Cambodia must be transferred to a waiting center and undergo a COVID-19 test. One must then remain in the center until the result is known. That usually takes about 24 hours.
  • However, from now on foreigners will have to pay for all costs themselves. That is USD 5 for the transport between the border and the waiting center, USD 100 for the coronavirus test, USD 30 for a day in a waiting center and USD 30 for three meals.
  • To ensure that all foreigners pay the costs, USD 3.000 is demanded from the foreigners upon entry. After deducting all costs, the remaining amount will be refunded.
  • If someone tests positive for COVID-19, all passengers on that flight will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine. Foreigners will have to pay 84 USD per day for this.
  • Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 will be charged USD 100 per test (max 4) and USD 225 per day for hospital room, treatment and sanitation. A fee of USD 1.500 will be charged in the event of death.

They emphasized the need to be well prepared and have enough money with you if you plan to travel to Cambodia.

In March, Prime Minister Hun Sen said all patients, regardless of nationality, who test positive for the novel coronavirus in Cambodia are entitled to free medical treatment. "We are poor, but our hearts are big," Mr Hun Sen said at the time.

It may be….

It seems as if someone has divided the world into regions, where everyone has to stay in their own region.

It will be quiet in Cambodia, except maybe with the Chinese..

In addition, for the time being you can only enter the country with a visa issued in advance by a Cambodian Embassy, and no visas are issued for tourist purposes. E-visa and visa on arrival have been canceled for the time being. A health certificate must also be submitted that cannot be older than 72 hours and it must be demonstrated that one has health insurance with a minimum coverage of USD 50.000. I don't quite understand the meaning of that certificate because you apparently have to undergo a test upon entry.
Just crossing the border does not seem to be an issue for the time being.

Thanks to Ronny for this very useful information.
The chance that you will see anything of that 3000 USD in that extremely corrupt country seems nil to me.

      @Joop
Well, if you make a calculation, those 3000 USD are indeed almost up or over, depending on whether you already have quarantine or treatment!

And what to think about a border run. Just get a stamp??
You are in Cambodia… even if it is only 1 hour !!
    Also pay the $3000?
All in all it doesn't get any more fun.
Not to hope that Thailand will take over this because then it will be over for good.
    Maybe one door further Malaysia!!
Just wait and see for now.
    Maybe in August!!
    But nothing is certain

See my comment above: you don't enter the country for a border run.

So if you don't have Corona among the members, it will actually cost you $165. I would pay by credit card because if they do not want to refund it, you can always submit it and my experience is that the credit card company (NL) always chooses the customer when they have a convincing story.

Does anyone have any idea what the situation is like in Vietnam at the moment? Are there also such strict travel conditions for foreigners?

  7. david h. says up

I fear that Thailand residents with expired visas will run into problems with these measures, I think many will have to consider switching to retirement visas, if possible in terms of age, but there are still problems if visa runs are not possible!

For these amnesties will not be extended forever.

    • Lung addie says up

'think many will have to consider switching to retirement visas'.

Who knows, maybe that's the point. Someone with a 'Retirement visa' and year extension does not have to make border runs, but must first of all meet the immigration conditions and that is where the shoe pinches. Possibly they just want to get rid of those people who stay here for years with a factually incorrect visa, such as Tourist Visa ME or Non O-ME, and always make a visa or border run.
Good opportunity, under the guise of Corona for Cambodia, to also earn something from those border runners because now they have nothing to do with it, apart from the visa costs…. across the border and away again: in fact nothing….. Don't worry, the other neighboring countries will also come up with something similar. Yes, hard times are ahead for the border hoppers.

I keep getting emails from Thai Visa Center .com
Does anyone know if it is reliable.

That question also appeared as a Visa question on May 14.

In other words: as long as the virus is much worse here than there, no country wants to run any risk.

Don't blame them. When it started, there were also parliamentary questions about why planes from Iran were still landing at Schiphol.

Thailand and South-East Asia are equally impossible. Until the vaccine or effective medicine.

  9. Jef says up

Jawadde, if you have to travel like this, it is no longer necessary for me.
I'm not going to sit on a plane for 12 hours at 750 euros or more to stress on arrival.
And whoever says that the result of a test there is reliable, they can say what they want.
And imagine, 300 people fly to Cambodia, one has symptoms and the other 299 people can come along for two weeks in quarantine.
Want to see who's willing to take this risk. !!!

departed from Cambodia on 2 April.

If I understand correctly, it will be impossible for many to visit Cambodia. They are doing a good job of scaring away tourists here in SE Asia. Does this measure also apply to the Chinese????
