Local officials in Rayong province have inspected Khao Laem Ya-Mu Ko Samet National Park for illegal land use.

The authorities investigated 4.48 hectares of nature reserve for 23 suspicious cases, such as building without a permit. This often concerns holiday homes and other unwanted theft of land. The parties suspected of illegal construction must show proof of land ownership within 30 days, otherwise they will be prosecuted.

Officials are also investigating a 9,6-hectare parcel that is currently the subject of the “Bian Phungsakul v. Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation” lawsuit. A drone inspection showed that Bian had appropriated another 0,48 hectares of national nature reserve, where 18 illegal structures were discovered.

The government will recover the costs of dismantling and unauthorized use from the offender.
