Once upon a time… a fashion model

It started as a fairytale but it didn't have a happy ending. In the mid-37s, Rojjana 'Yui' Phetkanha (1994) was discovered, a girl of humble origins from the Isan, who worked in an emergency business. She won the title of Supermodel of Thailand XNUMX; did modeling in Milan, Paris and New York, appeared as a cover girl VogueAsia and was the figurehead of the Chanel perfume Allure.

But she turned to drugs and alcohol and her career came to an abrupt end. Since then it has only gone downhill for her. In early September, she was spotted on the street twice. The first time she harassed people at a gas station, the second time she walked down the street with a large bag of food and clothing. She seemed disoriented and unable to answer coherently. Police took her to the Somdet Chaopraya Institute of Psychiatry, where she was admitted.

They are strong legs that can carry the wealth. After her collapse, she confessed her drug use, said she had made a mess financially and had an inflated ego. Afterwards, her name popped up countless times in the tabloid press with more misery and strange behavior until it culminated in the hospitalization. Whether she is still there is not mentioned in the article.

Three top models: Si, Ngonngon and Rosie

Currently, Pisinee is 'Si' Tanviboon hot. She comes from a wealthy family. Si still lives in Thailand, but already flies from one continent to another, on her way to the catwalks of Chanel and Vivienne Westwood.

Tiriree 'Ngonngon' Kunanuruk also hails from a wealthy family. This lady studied at Chulalongkorn University and moved to New York. So far, she's worked for Betsy Johnson, Kithe Brewster and k.nicole, doing four shows at New York Fashion Week this month plus a photo shoot for Macy.com.

Sober girl. “Modelling has an expiration date,” she says. So I thought, I'm going for it before I can't do it anymore. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. I can always continue my studies or find a job related to my degree. This is my little adventure.'

And then there's Cheera 'Rosie' Choo. She almost gave up modeling, thinking her looks were too strict for the Thai market. But she was lucky; Upfront from Singapore took her under contract and later Wilhelmina Models in New York. Rosie has walked for Rebecca Minkoff and WHIT and she did a commercial for Warren Tricomi Salon.

Cut-throat competition

Stylist Linda Chareonlarb warns girls who dream of a modeling job. “The most important thing is that you have to be mentally ready for it. It's a completely different world there. The competition is so fierce that you have to be more than strong in your shoes to survive. For girls who want to work abroad, it is important that they are well supported from home and that they have an education they can fall back on. It's not easy. Just being tall and handsome won't cut it.'

And that seems to explain Yui's tragic demise. She came from nowhere, with beautiful big eyes, but she was naive and became famous too quickly. She made it to the top but couldn't handle all the glitter, the booze, the boys and the drugs. And she had no one to help her keep her feet on the ground.

  1. Henk van 't Slot says up

That story of the down-to-earth fashion model is from a month ago, it was paid a lot of attention by Thai TV and newspapers.
My girlfriend followed it all, she thought it was interesting, from Loso, to Hiso, and down again.
The model has earned a lot of money, but never paid a bath to her parents, who don't want anything to do with her anymore, they are simple country people.
