Cameras in Pattaya should increase road safety

Recently, the Pattaya city council wants to have the traffic situation on the agenda every month. Chonburi has the dubious honor of being one of Thailand's provinces with the most traffic casualties. We want to map out what could be the cause of this.

In itself a laudable aim, but in every (fatal) accident one can often find out the cause, so the aim could be to pay more attention to it. One of the spearheads is to intensify the control on helmet wearing, but also to tackle speed.

Special cameras have been installed at a few points in Pattaya, which record both ignoring the red traffic light and the speed at which some pass an intersection.

For this, 2 special cameras are used next to each other and 8 lighting elements, which together provide a clear image. How this will develop in practice remains to be seen. The plans are there, but now the implementation and enforcement in the longer term remains.

Whoa, what a joke. And the Thai will stick to that. No way. You can hang cameras, install extra traffic lights, etc. It's all mopping with the tap open. Just watch the Seven Dangerous Days every year. Yes, we are going to reduce the number of road casualties. Will they never succeed because there are more every year….

Cameras to increase safety, a child knows what is causing this,
What about driving through a red light, a well-known saying in patatayais, if you want to maintain safety, you have to place a police officer behind every Thai. (not from me)

To begin with, 3 issues must be tackled in principle, viz
    1. change of mentality (comply with traffic rules/signs. In case of repeated asshole behaviour: take your driver's license for 3 years.
    2. strongly improve driving training and “reward” driving without a license with a 5-year prison sentence
    3. immediately remove cars/motorcycles without decent liability insurance (with a considerable deductible) from the road and declare them forfeit. That is not possible yet. Unfortunately.

Recently, a “doll” with her Mercedes (status symbol) caused an accident. It turned out that she was not insured (“Mercedes is very expensive to purchase and therefore also to have insurance…..?”). That argument is nonsense! This is about WA insurance and not hull insurance. And if you can buy a Mercedes, but find insurance too expensive, there is really something wrong with the mental faculties.

However, I am afraid that it will remain with research and that (normal) measures will not be taken.

You are absolutely right. Our word ,,responsibility,, you can't explain a Thai in such a way that he also understands or. wants to understand.
Here in Sakaeo the many "mopeds" drive without number plates, without proof of insurance ad mopeds, without helmets, lights and driver's licenses.
      No enforcement, no punishment.
      .
I was hit from the left by a moped that then took off. However, he was nicely sharp on my dashcam and was known to the police as a fruit trader. He was picked up at home. At the police station he was received as a "hero", whereby the police were very surprised that I wanted my damage paid.

The photo accompanying the article gives a nice picture of the lack of mentality, by the way. Why do traffic rules and traffic signs apply?

    I can hardly hear it anymore, it gives me nausea;
Intensify controls on helmet wearing. Those police officers must first sweep in front of their own door, most officers do not wear a helmet themselves. Just look at the beach promenade of Pattaya, all those police helpers with those blue suits on the beach promenade, they are all above the law of Thailand, they do not need to wear a helmet. And then all those bigwigs with those police caps don't need that at all,
they are way above the law “with their noses”.

And then drive through a red light, if you drive from Pattaya Klang onto the beach road you already have the first traffic light for pedestrians, they all drive through that even the police cars that drive with red flashing lights on the beach road for fun because they do it that way like it. Bah Bah Bah

Believe me the only thing that works is if you grab the Thai in his wallet . Camera axis along the road for speed, for red light for crossing yellow solid lines etc etc.
And then linking the images to a hefty fine, just like in many Western countries, that helps.
Do you find out a week or two by mail that you have a few thousand baths in fines outstanding and must pay immediately otherwise the vehicle will be confiscated. You can count on them to quickly adjust their driving behaviour.
The rest of the solutions, including driver training, are of no use here in Thailand.
Then immediately close all those police boxes along the road and put the entire force to work.
After morning apple on the motorcycle with camera and coupon book, of course also at night.

15 y Pattaya…the traffic lights work but the motorists drive through the red light. I push the button and wait until it is green to cross.80% motorists drive through the red light…so watch out!
One should also be allowed to drive a maximum of 30 km on the beach road because of the crowds.

    Dear Jan,
I don't believe you and I have reasons for that.
In almost all countries where research has been done into punishments for traffic violations, the worst punishment the offender can think of is the removal of the driver's license for a shorter or longer term. In Thailand, this can be combined with the invalidation of the ID if the fine is not paid. But take it from me: that money comes because it is borrowed from family, friends or acquaintances or a laon shark. And as a result, more people are thrown into the accident.
