Bangkok during New Year's Eve 2017: This is the place to be for a smashing New Year's Eve!
Of course, the turn of the year is also celebrated in Thailand, especially in the metropolis of Bangkok. Music, food stalls, champagne and fireworks cannot be missed at this party for young and old! Where should you be and what are the famous hotspots in the capital of Thailand? Here they come!
The well-known hotspots for a fantastic New Year's Eve on December 31 are:
- CentralWorld in the heart of Bangkok, with a gigantic fireworks display. Celebrate with the Bangkokians.
- Khao San Road (the backpackers' domain), here you can celebrate with young foreigners from all over the world.
- Asiatique on the banks of the Chao Phraya (only accessible by ferry from Saphan Taksin BTS station).
- Crystal Design Centre, on Pradit Manutham Road (Khwaeng Khlong Chan – Khet Bang Kapi).
Come by Skytrain because the traffic in the city will be completely stuck. The BTS Skytrain runs until 1 am on January 2, so you can also take public transport back to your hotel.

Why is everyone surprised that something is being done about Christmas in Thailand, often stating that it is for impure reasons (commerce and greed), while an article about New Year's Eve 2017 starts with the observation that this is OF COURSE is also celebrated in Thailand.
Isn't that also simply imported from the west?
We live here until mid-April in the year 2560, in accordance with the Buddhist (and also official) calendar?
Thais do like a party: New Year's Eve, then Chinese New Year and then Songkran. I agree with them. Let's get party!
Also in Thailand it will be the year 1 on January 2561 and not in April. This since 1941.
January 1 is now indeed the official New Year for Thailand.
You can read here how that came about.

Ah, now I get it. I had missed that change in 1940/41…
The average Thai doesn't do Christmas at all, they don't even know what the reason for Christmas is. The big shopping malls are fussy with Christmas decorations, yes, just like in the rest of the world, commerce and greed. Where I live, 30 km from Korat, businesses and schools are open as usual.
Centralworld in the heart of Bangkok. Yes, a big party. I was there a few years ago (maybe about 8 years ago?)… It was great, but terrifying afterwards. The crowd of people was so huge and moved in one direction afterwards. You couldn't stand. Shoulder to shoulder… probably a festival for pickpockets.
I had a mild panic attack in this crowd and started pushing people away from me. Left and right I heard screams and screams from others who panicked.
On the sides I saw how some women were lucky enough to be pulled up onto a terrace, so that they were out of this sea of people for a while.
It didn't take long, but it seemed like an eternity.
Then I was there a second time, together with my ex and my daughters. We then safely settled into a Central World restaurant and were seated at a window. We could watch everything outside and inside there was a monitor where it could be seen from a different angle.
However, I don't think I will go there voluntarily again… really a bit too busy…
“Khao San Road (the backpackers' domain), here you can celebrate with young foreigners from all over the world.”
Many of the backpackers are no longer young people at all, but in their 30s and 40s. Two foreigners in my condo are regular visitors to Khao San: a 40-year-old Maltese and a 50-year-old German.
The most beautiful New Year's Eve I've had at Riverside Hilton, beyond description and recommendable.
Traffic is not too bad, partly because the workers have all gone home
31st not busier than normal and I've lived here for 18 years
We go to one of the rooftop bars, first have dinner and then watch fireworks, the weather is not cooperating yet, but according to the weatherman it will all be fine
happy new year everyone!!!
