A TikTok video showing a customer's sandal getting caught on an escalator at the Central Westgate mall in Nonthaburi went viral and sparked new concerns about the safety of escalators and walkways. This is the second incident following an incident in which a woman lost a leg on a walkway escalator at Don Mueang Airport on June 29.

The latest video, uploaded on Saturday by a user named Pook, shows a black sandal caught in an escalator leading to the second floor of the mall, and two officers trying to free it.

Pook, a 34-year-old saleswoman who works at the mall, told the press on Sunday that she filmed the incident after seeing a large group of people at the escalator. She said the owner of the sandal was a man in his 30s who left the scene unharmed. However, following this incident, she admitted that she has become afraid to use escalators.

Central Westgate stated in a Facebook post on Sunday night that the incident happened around 14.00pm and that the sandal got stuck in the escalator due to the man not stepping away fast enough.

The staff present immediately stopped the escalator and no one was injured in the incident. The mall also confirmed that it is taking proactive measures to ensure customer safety by conducting regular checks and maintenance. In addition, the staff is well trained to deal with unexpected situations, the statement said.

Probably someone with their eyes glued to their cellphone.
It's common sense to get off the stairs in time and not get bogged down towards the end. You don't cross the road with your eyes closed either.
Storm in a glass of water.

i also fell on the escalator in bangkok airport to subway
escalator goes way too fast, especially if you have luggage with you, extremely dangerous

I have asked my wife several times why a Thai does not raise his feet when walking. They drag their feet on the ground.

If you do this at the end of an escalator, you indeed run the risk that your slipper may get stuck under the teeth of the escalator. This has nothing to do with the lack of safe escalators.

Do we really need to change the design of escalators? They are the same worldwide. An incident like this is rare. But yes, another video for social media 😉

I've fallen twice myself. 2 time with a full luggage cart on the treadmill at airport link and 1 time on the normal treadmill. These things are fine as long as you don't carry too much luggage

Then it's not the fault of those treadmills or escalators, is it? If you go on the road with 4 heavy suitcases, you can indeed get into trouble. Therefore, those things are not necessarily unsafe.

And someone who gets stuck at the end of an escalator with his sandals is because he himself is not paying attention. But as said above, constantly yawning on your smartphone is not smart either.
