If you are in the Pattaya area, sattahip and Rayong is visiting it Koh Samae San island worth seeing. Koh Samae San is located 1,4 km away from the coast of Ban Samae San in the district, which can be reached by boat from the mainland in Ban Samae San.

The island is preserved and controlled by the Royal Thai Navy. Military exercises are regularly held here and the navy also provides a breeding ground for sea turtles. For the visiting tourists, the island also serves as a classroom, where marine people explain the plants, fish and corals present.

There are several beaches with powdery white sand where you can snorkel in the exceptionally clear waters, take a bike ride or simply relax on a sun lounger and enjoy the peace and quiet of this unspoilt island. As mentioned, the island is controlled by the navy and that means that there are some rules. For example, wearing a bikini is not appreciated.

You cannot spend the night on the island and the facilities are meager. There is no restaurant, but there is a possibility to buy snacks and drinks.

The reactions on Tripadvisor are mostly very positive for a day trip to this island. Google Koh Samae San and you will find quite a few websites that provide information about this island. By the way, the best time to make that trip is winter-summer between January-April.

The first boat leaves at 9 AM and the last boat back at 4 PM. Go to a travel agency to arrange the trip or call directly for a reservation on the boat with TAT Pattaya on the following telephone numbers 038-427-667, 038-428-750, 038-423-990

On YouTube you will find several videos about Koh Samae San, I chose this one with Thai commentary but it gives a good impression of the island:

I first came to Thailand in 1980 and immediately fell in love with the country. Been back many times since then and moved to Thailand after my (early) retirement as a widower. I have been living there for 22 years now with my somewhat younger Thai lady Poopae.
My first experiences in Thailand as a kind of newsletter sent to family, friends and acquaintances, which later appeared under the name Gringo on Thailandblog. Many, many articles followed those first stories and that has grown into an almost daily hobby.
In the Netherlands still an avid footballer and football referee, but the years are starting to tell and in Thailand still avid, but the pool billiards is really of inferior quality, ha ha!

  1. French says up

In the past many beautiful dive trips made from Same Saen. it is a beautiful environment that is well preserved due to the presence of the navy.
Sometimes we had to avoid certain areas because of exercises, but there was still more than enough left to make nice dives.
